Intel Pentium G3258 vs. AMD Fx 6300

Saw the new intel cpu and it looks good so far and its only $70.
So I was planing on buying fx 6300 but now i don't know.

Witch one would go better with r9 270 OC.
And in the future when i get a better graphics card i kind off don't want to upgrade cpu so keep that in mind

Depends on what games.

all games that r9 270 can run

I'd go for the FX 6300 since it has more cores and most games will use those extra cores, but I'd go for the Pentium if you plan to upgrade your CPu to something like an i5 or i7 later on.

That's not how it works ;)

For example, Starcraft, Dota 2, etc they won't use over 2 cores.

However Battlefield 4 is a different story.

It really depends on what you are doing with the system that you are building it the things that you are doing require more cores with less speed or less core with blazing fast speed if you decide that oc pentium (Witch I recommend)

Hi there. Move along, n0thing to see here.

more questions is FCLGA1150 same as LGA1150, i mean can the fit the same cpu, if i want to upgrade to i7 later down the line. On intel's site it says FCLGA1150 but on the motherboards it says LGA1150

i'd just go with the 6300, dual cores is meh to me

fclga1150 = lga1150. Just again a longer useless word for socket 1150.

They are the same.

You can get a nice Z97 board and upgrade down the way, the Pentium is not a beast, but it performs decently and overclocks nicely.

FCLGA = flip chip lga. Long way of saying it :)

@TheRagingGamer all games that r9 270 can run

That doesn't cut it, some will be bound to 1 or 2 processing cores, in which case the Pentium will bury the FX. Some will use 4 or more in which case the 6300 will be a bit better.

The motherboard and CPU cooler will add a lot to the cost. $30+ for the cooler + $50'ish+ for a z97 board. So it's not really $70 if you want to get good results from it.

but if I went amd i would still need to get the motherboard since right now i have mobo with socket 775, so its about the same for mobo and cooler regardless

AMD motherboards are fairly cheaper. In all honesty I'd recommend you pick up a second hand motherboard + CPU. Motherboards are quite cheap second hand and CPU's usually have like 1/3 of the price knocked of. You won't have current gen but you'll get a lot more performance than you would if you buy either options you're looking at.

The FC might stand for Future Compatible.

I have 4.5ghz stable on stock cooler(never went to 90 degrees should be okay) of Pentium G3258; using a B85 board.  That should be good enough.

only 3 reasons to consider pentium personally.

1. You are an enthusiast and want to OC the chip to see if you can get the highest oc out of it.

2. You are in need of an upgrade but want broadwell so the pentium is a nice placeholder with a z97 board.

3. You mainly play MMOs or heavily single threaded games.

out of those two i'd pick the 6300 hands down, 2 cores are simply not cutting it for many modern games no matter the clockspeed.

The FX-6300 is still a superior CPU IMHO.

Unless you play a lot of oldies and MMO's and RTS and indie games, get the FX...or if you plan an upgrade to a good intel CPU within a year from now (i5-4690K or i7-4790K..)

I doubt it's stable. Reviews I've seen are usually 4.7Ghz on a H100i or something similar.. I know they improved the TIM but on the stock cooler that's pretty much not possible..lol.

You can doubt it but I actually have it working right here.

It's stable after 8 hours of Prime95 and 10 cycles of IntelBurnTest.

Never got over 90 degrees.

Currently I'm testing(trying to find the lowest voltage stable for 4.8ghz) at 4.7ghz, 1.37v, with CM hyper 212 evo cooler + an extra fan mounted.

Liquid cooler is overkill for something like this.

The stock cooler is like the one that comes with high end i5 and i7; the one the a copper plate on bottom instead of straight aluminium.

Now I'm even more doubtful. You're not meant to stress-test haswell CPU's with Prime 95 (Devils Canyon is haswell with better TIM) because it pumps too much voltage into your CPU. The problem should still occur with devils canyon.. Also, I use IBT and 10 is enough to ensure stability but I'm surprised it made it to 10 lol. Pics? I'm finding it so hard to believe lol.

That's horrible advice, among budget components motherboards are the component in a computer that has the shortest lifespan. Then add on that the fact that AMD's board partners only achieve a lower price than Intel board partners due to being allowed to spec motherboards with lower grades of caps and chokes. Recommending second-hand budget AMD equipment is a recipe for disaster at worst, disappointment at best.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

go with the AMD 6300, it will allow you to do a lot of things with your computer at the same time, or if you are really looking to save money go with the AMD 750k or AMD 760k on the FM2+ platform.  they are quad thread parts and will do better that the Pentium once you start to use your computer for a bunch of things.

sure the pentium will do good in games Especially if you overclock it, but as soon as you start to do other things at the same time that dual core will start to show it's limits.  most of the benchmarks are done on fresh systems that all they do is run the benchmark and move on and never test anything beyond.

also do not overlook the usefulness of an SSD, i did and i cried every time i needed to restart my computer; because it took 5+ minutes to boot (HDD below in system description).

CPU: AMD FX8350 CPU Cooler Zalman CNPS 12x Motherboard Asus M5A99FX Pro R2 GPU RX480 4GB) Memory 16GB DDR1333 SSD: PNY Prevail 120G + Corsair Force LE 120G (Steam) Bulk storage Stable Bit Drive Pool with 5x 2TB 2x 3TB PSU Corsair 600w Case Rosewill Throne
