Nothing Special

THIS IS  A VERY OLD POST GO TO THREAD #22 FOR THE LATEST PICS OF THIS BUILD

Hey guys new to the forum I have been watching Linus for a few years now and decided to hop on the forum Congrats Linus :) . Anyway I have been messing around with PC's regularly since around 1994 and always bought in big box stores. I would upgrade the ram or graphics card on occasion (or at least think I made an upgrade because I had more RAM lol). Until 2005 when I built my first PC, ever since then I have been addicted. My 1st PC was a very low end budget build which I was playing oblivion a lot on at 20 fps on a heavily modified ini file to get as much juice out as I could and a lot of quake 4 and whatever other old PC titles I own. ID tech was as pretty as it got for me back then and it wasn't a smooth experience either on a single core 754 pin amd64 with a 4x agp card lol. I ran this computer for way too long while my friends played the latest HD games I was playing doom ports and quake ports. My next PC was also a low end budget build went to an athlon x2 OC to 3.7 Ghz with a 5750 well that whole year I was not happy at all I guess you get what you pay for. The last PC I had was a mid range phenmon II x4 OC to 3.9 Ghz and a 7970. Which ended up being pretty awesome but still did not quite make me happy. So about march of 2013 I decided that I was going to get what I wanted and be happy instead of being dissatisfied. This is the components list

Corsair carbide 500r

X2 Corsair 120mm S/P Fans

X2 Corsair 120mm A/F Fans

Thermaltake 600 watt PSU

ASUS ROG MAXIMUS V FORMULA Motherboard

i7 3770k @ 4.5 Ghz

16GB G.Skill 2133 @ 9 11 10 28

2 AMD Reference 7970's

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Storage 90 GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD

160 GB Seagate 7200 rpm

Peripherals

Corsair K95 Keyboard

Corsair M65 Mouse

Corsair Vengeance 2000 Headset

Input on this build would be great next I will list my planned upgrades this build is not done suggestions would be great

Corsair AX860i PSU

Corsair black sleeved cables

ASUS BD burner

2 256 GB Samsung 840 pro SSD in raid 0

2 WD Black 2 TB 7200 rpm HD in raid 0

1 msata 64 GB SSD for intel smart cacheing

Anolog Headset

NAS backup drive

either a Noctua cooler or an AIO liquid cooler not sure yet

So I want to run a dual boot I want my win 7 on the 2 samsung drives and xp on the 90 GB drive I have now. Then use the 4 TB for storage. Not sure weather to go raid with a setup for  my storage space and/ or use smaller drives and  I am not sure if I were to run 2 seperate raid 0 configs if I would need to get a raid card or could the ASUS board handle that raid. Anyways here are the picspost-20247-0-11319200-1368689836_thumb.jpost-20247-0-42355700-1368689935_thumb.jpost-20247-0-65680700-1368689941_thumb.jpost-20247-0-17013900-1368689952_thumb.jpost-20247-0-95754300-1368689987_thumb.jpost-20247-0-68197600-1368690003_thumb.jpost-20247-0-98628600-1368690049_thumb.jpost-20247-0-09551900-1368690057_thumb.jpost-20247-0-04680100-1368690112_thumb.jpost-20247-0-79193400-1368690126_thumb.j

NOTE: Need to clean out dust and take some new pics slowly my rig is coming together. Now that I have my crossfire just need to get some hard drives and plan out a custom loop.

Corsair AX860i PSU <--- Overkill for your setup. Your system would need 600 max.

Corsair black sleeved cables

ASUS BD burner <--- For what?

2 256 GB Samsung 840 pro SSD in raid 0 <-- You will not notice any difference from a single 840 pro. Trust me

2 WD Black 2 TB 7200 rpm HD in raid 0 <--- Better, but if your are using these as a storage kinda useless..

1 msata 64 GB SSD for intel smart cacheing <-- where will you attach this?

Corsair K95 Keyboard <--- Awesome

Anolog Headset <--- Why not go for a corsair 2000?

NAS backup drive <--- Isn't 4 tera enough? -_-

Firstly, welcome to the forums. Your build looks pretty sweet so far. With your suggested upgrades I would drop to a Corsair 760AXi if you want the Link technology otherwise you could go as far down as a 550w Seasonic or Silverstone. I would just keep your existing SSD, there's no real need to get a new one that is smaller for Intel SRT. With your mass storage drives, I would recommend switching out for Seagate Barracuda's - they're a lot cheaper and you won't notice a performance difference.

Great build but that PSU looks like one of the questionable cheap thermaltake ones.  You got a good chunk of money invested in that I would really urge you to get a higher quality PSU in that thing.

Nothing special? Still really good build! Consistant color scheme, good cable management!

Only thing: the white fans. I'm a freak for looks so I would swap them for no LED fans or red fans.

The PSU upgrade? Not needed imo...
