$1000 headphones?! You're crazy! (Audeze LCD-2 review)

Lays

The lcd-x will still have plenty of bass for sure, but remember it's quite a bit heavier than the 2/3 because it's solid aluminum I believe.  If you have a strong neck it won't bug you at all. The LCD-2 with fazor is a bit different than the revision 1/2, the revision 2.2 + 3 (fazor) sound quite a bit different I've heard.  The treble was brought up a couple db, the bass slam has been toned down a bit. They're much closer to neutral in the newer versions, but the X is a bit more neutral so I've heard.

What you could do, is buy LCD-2's from razordogaudio for $795, try them for a bit and send back if you want to try the X's as well?

Here's one for 1450:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/722243/lcd-x-lost-balance-xlr-cable

He's missing the balanced cable, dunno if you care though?

http://www.head-fi.org/t/728475/used-like-new-audeze-lcd-x-free-shipping

1500$

Lol, how did I miss the second one? The first I found, but later one I went back for it and found another listing from the same guy, with the balanced cable, charging 1525 for it, so I just assumed he hiked the price and that I was looking at the same listing. I don't really care for the cable. If I really need it in the future I can just buy it.

Hmmm........

I hate having to make decisions.  :(

Where do you live?

California - the closest audio shop that has Audeze is Audio High. I've been there once for the HD800s. Unsure if they have the LCD-X though. They might just have non-fazored LCD 2/3s, will have to ask.

Why does everybody get the rugged case? C'mon, the wooden case is much sexier.

There's a city in California called Redmond? O.o Can't find it. There's a Redmon in Washington though.

Dunno about the LCDs.

I think I just want to spend all my money on non-essential things and then live on the street.

  • 2 months later...

Had to send them in for repair, a tiny bit of paint chipped and started peeling because of a bend I noticed when I first got them, it was a tiny tiny bend so I bent it back, (probably shouldn't of but it was hella annoying and bugged me)

Anyways Audeze agreed to repair it free because lots of their units in June had this same problem, they even paid for 2 day shipping.

Great customer service!

These have always been a constant allure to me.  If they ever go on drop at Massdrop I may pick up a pair.  They recently had a drop for AKG's k812's and I think they went down like from $1400USD to $800-ish, so - Massdrop is a fun little place to go if you have had a chance to test out some of the more ridiculously sounding and expensive but very much so WORTHY headphones.  8)

You can pick lcd2's up for 795$ on razor dog audio, I'd recommend doing that.

I have seen some issues with the k812, they had some build quality issues with a few screws in them apparently, not sure if those issues have been fixed.  Apparently they have some issues with the treble as well, there's a review on them from Innerfidelty, he didn't seem to be to pleased with the issues in the treble. (apparently issues a flagship headphone should never have)

why not lyr 2?

I bought my Lyr for 285USD used so in my eyes it was a better buy than Lyr 2 for $450.

I believe the only difference is the lyr 2 has a built in relay and gain switch. Schiit is putting a relay in my lyr for free right now so it's OK with me

Why spend 1000 dollars on headphones

Same reason people buy any high end equipment: whether its computer parts, Ferraris, 50,000$ sound systems, or anything like that. Because of performance, luxury, enjoying their hobby.

I felt the same way when I had my first pair of real headphones (AD900x) at the start of my audio hobby, I thought "why on earth would someone get that it's so expensive, I bet they're not even that great!"

Then a few months went by and I tried a higher end headphone (the HE-500) I saw quite a decent improvement over my previous AD900X. Then a few weeks went by and I figured I'd try the LCD2 at a store near my house and I was wowed by that even more than the He-500. It was only an extra $200 over what I had already spent, so I returned the HE-500 to where I bought them, and bought a pair of LCD-2's.

I now know the saying "don't knock It til ya try it" is quite true and realistic.

I'd love to own a pair of the rosewood ones, but the RRP in my country is $1600, still waiting for a second hand version to come out.

Ever since I listened to them I fell in love, can't wait to own a pair.
