Parts List for ULTIMATE 4K Gaming PC Build Guide

would wait 4930k is only 6 cores/12threads for same price as 5930k will be. Haswell-Extreme 5930k which will be 8 cores/16threads supposed to be coming out September along with X99 Motherboard and Crucial is releasing DDR4 ram in August.

3gb 780ti's can't handle 4k gaming if you turn the AA to max Battlefield 4 uses over 3gb of vram maxed out and Crysis 3 is using 3.6gb at 4k res maxed AA

Because who needs AA in such resolution..

I feel the need to correct Linus and the crew on a specific thing you said in this video Linus: At 13:36 in this video you talk about how the R9-290X uses 100W more power under load than a 780TI would, that my friend is baloney. It merely uses around 20W more. And 20W as we all know is nothing

There's more but i don't feel like digging around to prove such a basic point.

I do however see this as an unacceptable thing to say and do, with such a large audience it's your responsibility to keep your viewers informed as best you can with real facts. With this large of an audience you might very well hurt a company based of your own ideas.

If there's anything i missed that you said or i whooshed hard do tell me however

Why not 295x2? It has more Vram, higher memory bandwidth, more ROPs which are all needed for high resolution gaming.

Copypasta fail in the description: The link for the case on NCIX in the actually a link to the motherboard :o
The only reason I notice is because this is the first case that ever made me think a side panel can look nice.

If this is the ultimate build guide and a no compromises machine, it really should have had two-way 290X's or two-way Titan Blacks. Even if 3GB is enough now (and I would argue it definitely isn't), it definitely isn't enough in certain games. Power consumption (which isn't that big of a difference) and heat are not that big of a deal when that frame rate tanks when you eventually do run out of VRAM.

EDIT: Before people start saying I didn't watch the video, I did. I still disagree with Linus.

O.o

Why 32gb of ram though?

cuz video editing I guess. With that sort of components going for less would be bottlenecking it anyway, you're not going to use a 4930k just for gaming (otherwise might just as well spare money and get a 4790k).

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

The case is something I am interested in, one important question though, since I stay away water-cooling, will this case fit my Noctua NH-D15 nicely? or will there be any issues I should be aware of.

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

In my opinion it should. It's a pretty large case so you should probably be able to fit it. I don't know first hand though.

The build guides are cool, well explained, shows the right things and the editing gets better with every guide.

But I don't understand who they're for any more? They seem pretty redundant by now. Who's going to look at this particular build guide and think "Gosh Darn it, I wish they had a guide with the same parts, but with SLI instead" Or with an AMD APU, smaller motherboard or whatever? It's nearly the same either way. It shouldn't need 10 minutes of explaining how to install RAM and CPU, Just because there's an extra graphics card or a slightly smaller motherboard.

And it would amaze me, if anyone ever bought a specific setup from a build guide, because of the build guide, to build a system just like the one in the video. But I obviously am not the targeted audience, so that might be why I can't understand it. :)

I think the concept could use some rethinking. Maybe by doing segments instead: "When building m-itx systems you should consider this and that" "When building SLI systems, be sure to have enough power, pros and cons of  the various cooler designs" etc.

It seems to be a good way to get some sweet hardware in stock though. :)

Pushing air against the rad on the front of the case isn't a great idea, IMO, even with filters. You'll end up with dirt accumulation on the front of the rad where the fans are. That means you'll need to take it out every few months to clean it off, and that can be a pain in the butt. Instead, orient the fans so that they pull air through instead. If you have fans with decent static pressure then that'll work just fine and end up cleaner in the long run.

Otherwise, good video guys.

Are you threatening me?!

O.o

Why 32gb of ram though?

Because the x79 chipset uses quad channel. it benefits from having 4 seperate Dimms and 8gb dimms give the biggest frame buffer per DIMM.

Also, you don't hold back when using the "enthusiast" platform, you go all out.

Mostly agree .

And 3gb vram is enough for any current single gpu for gaming , but i'm not sure if it's enough if you do sli.

From my personal experinence and monitoring 1080p gaming eats up normally on high-ultra settings no more than 1.5Gb of vram (and from 1->3Gb ram) , but if 4k is 8mp resolution versus the 2mp of 1080p , i think (maybe i'm wrong) one needs 6gb Vram , and just than do sli , for maximal benefits .

i remember when i had my 9600gt 1gb version on a 1152*864 res. it used max 800-ish MB of Vram .

I hATE sIGNATURES  ;)

@LinusTech why 32 go of ram tho ? is that really nessesary for 4K gaming ?

Unused ram makes it go faster, duh.

3gb of vram is enough for linus because he's a hardware unboxer and he will only need to use the card till the GTX 880 comes out. If you a normal person with a budget and keep your hardware for 2 generations or so, 3gb of vram will be tragic mistake that will caues you to have to part with your SLI setup far sooner than you otherwise would. (like my 5970 trifire setup with 1gb of vram per core, sure its 3dmark score is just a tad under a gtx titan, but 1gb of vram dont cut it in 2014)

I wish people like linus and other hardware reviewers would shout this from the rooftops. The default amount of vram for a card is enough for the 1 card. If you run sli/tri sli, you have enough power for the card to last several generations and push much higher resolutions, so if you're going to run SLI.... ALWAYS BUY DOUBLE MEMORY VERSIONS OF GPUS FOR SLI!!!!! (unless of course you replace you cards every generation)
