Good cheapish host?

Jobobee

Hello people of the LTT forum,

I need a good host that's not too expensive. I will need it for a lot of PHP and large MySQL databases.

My budget is around $5-10 a month, but I will expand it if I get too much traffic.

I'd like unlimited bandwidth, but it's not NECESSARY.

Thanks,

Jobo

I think you mean VPS :P.

I'm just looking for a shared server, a VPS would be out of my budget.

It shouldn't need too much space, it'll mainly be storing text files. Fast internet isn't a must, once again, text files.

Amazon EC2 is the only sensible option if you are using large databases. You can attatch petabytes of storage onto any of their nodes, and they have nodes availible with 32 Threads and 80GB of RAM.

I dont think you are going to get anything decent for your price range.

Okay, I got a VPS from OVH. I didn't want to pay for a whole year up front.

Well, looks like my VPS with OVH won't work, they need proof of address, and seeing as they don't like Italian addresses I used my grandparent's English one, but I can't prove that I live there. I got a refund. Any other ideas?

For what you're doing? Dreamhost if you want shared hosting Digital Ocean if you want a VPS (their $10/mo plan would be more than enough and you can upgrade later).

Dreamhost: http://www.dreamhost.com/web-hosting/ (promo code AUSUD87 will give you $40 off one year or $60 off two year billing cycle.)

Digital Ocean: https://www.digitalocean.com/pricing/
