ASUS Z97-WS Workstation Grade Motherboard

NCIX: http://bit.ly/1tQNWBL

Amazon: http://georiot.co/3vwy

The ASUS Z97-WS is the kind of product that really feels like it was "designed for me". No BS. Just rock solid.

edit: haha I guess the really early watches will get to see my guidance footage at the end of the actual video...

Yeah I was wondering why it blacked out in between the video

I thought the rest of the video was black, so I went to another tab and was just about to close it...then I heard Linus' voice and I thought I had Twitch open and he just started streaming.

Really good points. Other than the extra PCIe lanes that I'll most likely never use and a regular DVI over the miniDisplayport (for diagnostics), I might actually get a Workstation board for my next processor upgrade.

Why would Linus have this board in his systerm? Doesn't he use a 4960X ?

Makes me wish I had this instead of my Z77 - WS! But not really. It only add a few more features more that I can't see myself using anytime soon. Looks like a solid board though.

CPU - Intel Core i7 3770K @ 4.60GHz 1.264v | RAM - Corsair Dominator Platinum 16.0GB (2x8GB) | Motherboard - ASUS P8Z77 WS | Graphics - EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 | Storage -  120 GB Samsung 840 EVO | PSU - Corsair RM650 | Case - Corsair 550D

That board looks so nice. I wish it had a PS/2 connector on the back though and the price is just a little steep for me.

I love this board except for the thunderbolt 2 thing like u said linus if im going to pay $500+ on a board it should have native thunderbolt 2 support without an additional card which makes clutter also i hate the vrm heatsink design why didnt they use the same heatsink as what is on there consumer z97 boards like the delux and pro it would of made the board look soooo sexy!! Asus why do dis to me :(

Don't really like the location of the PCIe 1x slots. :|

Looks nice otherwise.

Lack of thunderbolt is annoying, but liveable.

Lack of WiFi a deal breaker for me. My workstation does not have a wired connection, and I need the 7 PCI-E slots. If one is taken up by a wireless card I may as well buy a cheaper motherboard with 6 expansion slots and WiFi. USB wireless dongles flat out don't work in my house and are pretty dodgy at the office.

So I'll stick to the deluxe series this time around.

EDIT: Though the Pro looks like a viable option too.

I'm surprised there aren't many (or any) consumer add in PCIe TB expansion cards. Would solve the issue of TB equipped Mobos being really expensive or non consumer grade.

Gigabyte brought out 2 consumer grade boards that both had dual thunderbolt with Z77 chipset and they weren't expensive and asrock has brought out some too u just have to look for them there is an asrock board that has dual for under $200usd the only time i see a thunderbolt expansion card usefull is for older boards and they need a stupid connector to have one anyway which isnt on older boards its really stupid i think thunderbolt should be used alot more people thought when z87 came out like every board was going to have thunderbolt but it was the same as z77 only like 5 boards have then everyone thought z97 would and it still hasnt come its rediculous does intel even want it to succeed like geez also wish alot more laptops had it because its more usefull on a laptop.
