Hi all, just looking to share a project I started.

I've been watching a lot of case modding.  I'm amazed with what's out there and what people have done.  After some minor pimping of my own pc I got the idea for the following project.

Basically I'm looking to make a computer tower look like an architectural model.  Googling that you can see what I'm thinking about.

49_arch_models_by_tkrep-d7g1zsc.jpg

Being that the parts inside are older I got the idea to make the insides look like an old boiler room.

After working through a few sketches I came up with the following.

94_blueprint_by_tkrep-d7hmh6w.jpg

From there dug into this nasty old box.

2_old_parts_by_tkrep-d7cyb2s.jpg

I gutted the box.

20_bays_gone_by_tkrep-d7f91j8.jpg

And added some 'creative' cable management.

21_cable_mgmt_by_tkrep-d7f91je.jpg

And created a template to hold some 120mm fans.

23_fan_panel_by_tkrep-d7f91n1.jpg

And got some fans installed.  Still some room for a slim rad should I want to go that route.

29_coming_together_by_tkrep-d7faaix.jpg

Created frames for both sides of the box.

39_temp_taped_by_tkrep-d7fuv1k.jpg

Including cutting a window for the left side panel.

35_hole_cut_by_tkrep-d7fuusi.jpg

Papered the back and grabbed some old cathodes for the 'light box'.

41_cathode_by_tkrep-d7fuwwi.jpg

And with the acrylic window in place was ready for some testing.

48_test_ready_by_tkrep-d7fxrq2.jpg

The initial cardboard mock up was looking pretty good.

53_windows_by_tkrep-d7g1zsy.jpg

Picked up some crafter's foam and started refining the mock ups.

NOW I was starting to get somewhere.

64_oh_yeah_baby_by_tkrep-d7gnq6f.jpg

Finished up the right panel.

Then started duplicating on the left.

71_duplicating_by_tkrep-d7gyx7i.jpg

The right side will be a simpler back-lit painted acrylic window.  The left side allows a view into the 'boiler room'.

Still lots to do, but the concept is coming together.

Admittedly this is a bit of a budget build right now.  Most of the budget is going into the esthetics rather than parts at this time.  We'll see how things play out to see what gets upgraded inside.

Lots left to do.  Still balconies to be built out on the front and more cable management to go inside.  After that a bunch of tear down & painting.  Still a ways to go.   ;)

Chopped up the leftover side panel to make a framework for the front balconies.

99_frame_cut_by_tkrep-d7hqy5e.jpg

Set it up on the front bezel.

101_foam_framing_by_tkrep-d7hqy5o.jpg

Cut up some foam flooring for the balconies.

104_sitting_pretty_no_tape_by_tkrep-d7hq

And added walls to the balconies.

105_balconies_with_walls_by_tkrep-d7hqy4

Aaaaaaand ran out of foam.  Lol!  Will need to pick up some more to finish up the entrance at the floor of the bezel and the roof features.  After that I can tear it apart, sand, paint & reassemble.

You have got to be kidding me! That is honestly the most innovative idea for a build Ive ever seen. WOW!

Makes it even better that its budget....You are doing this is far less and your imagination is really the force.

Haha, but no joke she should be proud and so should you. Nobody even thought of doing this before. But only thing I would change is that if you had a better case to hide those cables etc..

Cheese

Oops, left out this pic.  I've been doing a bunch of work on the insides too.  Still have to paint the insides and such, so I haven't been showing it off yet.
