Anti-Static Bag Test Bench Kind of (SFF Build) [4670k, 16gb RAM, 840 Pro 256gb, Anti-Static Bag]

Anthony10

UPDATED 7/9/15:

This build has gone through a lot of crazy changes, in the last few weeks I've changed a lot!

What's changed since the last update?

-I've acquired a pair of ATH-M50Xs. They were super cheap on sale and I just had to get myself a pair ($99.00 free shipping from adorama)

-The GTX 770 was sold ($182.50), as was the MSI Z87 GD65 ($56 has 2 dead RAM slots) that was used in the past.

-I'm now on integrated HD 4600 graphics.. oh god...

-The Hyper 212 EVO has returned, and I've stuck my unused NF-F12 on it instead of the stock fan, super quiet!

-I've changed locations in the apartment, using a run of the mill foldup table.

-I've repaired the MSI Z87I AC to have it's wireless AC again! I don't ever use it, but thought I might aswell. Was about a $15 repair, just some new pigtails and antennas

-The build has moved to an antistatic bag test bench sort of thing, much like the cardboard box version, but now theoretically safer... I think.

-I've upgraded to an S2415H which I picked up with a Best Buy open box deal for $170, I had a $25 gift card lying around that I never saw myself using as Best Buy has terrible prices, so I jumped on it, and I am glad I did!

-The S24B150BL is gone, I've lent it to my brother, might end up selling it or just plain giving it to my brother. I would probably still use it, but I've been running into too many errors and crashes when running the S2415H and the S24B150BL on a dual monitor setup with integrated graphics, I tried troubleshooting it but couldn't get it to work

-New Grifiti keyboard wrist rest (review coming soon, along with about 20 other reviews of assorted Grifiti products that they sent me to review :D)

Cable management is pretty poor, I'd zip tie everything up but I find myself re-adjusting it too much.

UPDATED 5/21/15:

This system has been running for almost a year and a half now. I am not the happiest with the parts I picked after learning so much in these past couple years about PC Hardware, but they aren't a bad choice.

I might be selling the parts of this build soon, and taking on a more ambitious build. I have not decided which build I would like to do, and you can help me make my decision on this forum topic. After all this time, the computer has been in a full tower, a 14L case, a cardboard box, and finally back in it's 14L case.

Sorry about the poor cable management, I don't have any more zip/twisty ties & sorry about the pictures, taken with the AMAZING iPhone 5S camera (sarcasm)

UPDATED 2/19/15:

I've had this rig for over a year now, and hardware wise it stays the same, usually, but the enclosure has changed from a Zalman Z12 Plus to a Silverstone RVZ01 and now... to a... cardboard box...

The 2 right RAM slots on my motherboard are dead I believe, as whenever I try to put RAM in them I get debug codes and my computer wont post. That unfortunately limits me to just 16gb of RAM now, how will I survive...

Did someone say ghetto? The mechanism for fixing gpu sag wouldn't work for me, the screw wouldn't hold it, so I took it into my own hands...

Everything but H75 installed
post-64210-0-89927300-1398789327_thumb.j

H75 installed, unfortunately after a bit of playing around, the pump was just too loud for me, and the scythe slipstream was pretty loud too. I am looking into getting a Silverstone NT06-Pro with a NF-F12 or something like that.

For now, the intel stock cooler will stay in.

Update 1/31/15 (page 2):

Update.. sorta.
So I have been away from home over the summer, went back home a couple months, and I am now away from home again since 2 months ago. While I was home, my family had moved to an apartment. I made a temporary ghetto setup, here are some pics. Hopefully this project can continue over spring break.

Nice! Was the H75 making abnormal noises or was it just plain too loud for you?

That's a real small monitor. Here is another pic :P The monitor on the far left is a 24 inch monitor.

I have never used an AIO before, so I can't really be sure, but I think because of how bent the tubes were it was making abnormal noises.

The amount of heatpipes and fins on the L9i vs NT06-Pro is a big difference, so it just won't perform as good as the NT06-Pro with a NF-F12. If I want it to be silent I can just put the fan speed down.

ok i was just wondering if you did, and Great build, was it hard to build in it?

luckily heatsinks on the motherboard and things like that made it easy to hide cables, you can't expect too much cable management in such a small enclosure. It took me about 3 hours I'd say to do. I had to:

Take CPU GPU RAM SSD and HDD out of current Build

Take out both included fan cases

Install PSU

Install Noctua fans

Install motherboard

Install CPU

Install RAM

Install HDD

Install GPU to bracket, then into the case.

Install SSD to bracket

Install Front I/O Cables to motherboard

Install H75 sort of

Cable management

Install H75 Completely.

Then I had to uninstall the H75, and install the stock cooler.

I think I'm going to go into my bios and make the noctua fans lower RPM, because my gpu temperatures are fine and the fans are a bit loud.

Redid Cable management, looks as clean as it's gonna get. Gonna order a new CPU cooler soon. I think I'm going with the Silverstone NT06-Pro with a Noctua NF-F12 fan on it.

Looks great!

I think, yeah. Thanks!

CPU is a bit high, like 45C, but it's on the stock cooler right now so...

GPU is like 30C. I haven't tested under load, those are both idle temps.

Case is like 2 inches thick I'd say.

That case is awesome for steam boxes :D

Yea xD

Hey,

I'm curious @Anthony10 - Why did you choose to go with the H75 as your cooler? Any specific reason.

Other than that, the other parts look good and seem to fit in very well with the build. Good luck on it!

Because the H80i didn't fit, and this was the step down. Unfortunately due to the super bent tubes it makes a loud noise, so I think I'm gonna get a NT06-PRO and stick an NF-F12 on it.

Thanks!

Update time! Installed a NT06-Pro. I got this app that lets me take pics in 2592x1936 or something on my iPhone, so hopefully pics are better, I know they're a bit blurry though..

New cooler in, I bent a ton of fins, horrible cpu mounting options and hard to fit a 25mm thick fan on it, but once you install it, it is fine.
