Watch Dogs on a GT 750M

colec18

I have been holding off on preordering Watch Dogs because I'm not sure if the 2GB GT 750M in my current laptop will be enough to run the game at a playable FPS at decent settings. I know CPU and RAM won't be a problem I have 8GB of 1600mhz ram and an i7 3630QM @ 3.4GHz.

My Build

 - i5 4670k @ 4.4GHz - MSI z87m Mobo - 16Gb 1866MHz RAM - MSI R9 290 - Samsung 840 EVO 250Gb - 2 x 1Tb WD Blue - CX600m - H55 AIO cooler - Fractal Node 804 - Lg 25um64-s Ultrawide screen monitor -  http://pcpartpicker.com/user/colec18/saved/9FKXsY

It'll probably run it, you'll likely need to turn down settings quite a bit to get playable FPS though.

Apparently you can get decent framerates on stuff like BF4 and Titanfall on low/medium settings, but that would involve dropping the resolution a bit too. So if you use that as an approximation, I think you could make it work, but it might not be super enjoyable or anything.

I would personally get a new card.. Part of the appeal of Watch Dogs is how good it looks.. And you'll be missing out on this. Kind of like you playing on a video game console. ;)

But, at low/maybe medium settings, you still won't get the best frame rates, but it'll at least be playable.

Not to mention, you'll probably want to upgrade the card in the near future anyways. If not Watch Dogs, then another game this year will probably have you wanting to switch anyways. I say do it now & get it over with.

So really, that's the only 2 scenarios. So it's up to you to decide which fate shall be yours!

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that GPU is soldered onto the mobo of his laptop.

Considering that the 750m is a laptop gpu, it might be a little difficult for him to get a new card. Regardless, it still should be able to run fine on lower settings.

Edit: Guess other people said the same thing in the time it took me to post this, sorry for repeating it.

Ohhh, I totally missed that! Wow.

I'm so sorry..! Please ignore what I said in my post. I read too quickly and missed that silly little game-changing "M".

Well, either way, as I mentioned - under low/medium settings it'll run Watch Dogs IMO.

It should be fine. Watch_Dogs' main development platform was PC, so it *HOPEFULLY* is well-optimized. Turn down some settings, and you should be good to go. Nearly any game can be played on that card, if the settings are tweaked enough.

Yeah I'm going to build a new PC after my summer job in July, hopefully with a GTX 780 or 770. I'll probably just wait until then to purchase Watch Dogs,

The 750m likely is because of it's lower power but there might be an MXM version as MSI likes to use that form factor.

I don't think so I'm using a Lenovo laptop, but it does have the ultrabay that I might add an extra GPU to.

Lenovo usually solders in the GPUs but I'm pretty sure the ultrabay sled takes an MXM GPU and with Nvidia optimus you can chose what GPU you want to use.

EDIT: You can by this and SLI if it fits. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Ultrabay-Removable-Graphics-IdeaPad/dp/B00JBFYET8/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1398394035&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=lenovo+GTX+750m+ultrabay

Damn those cards are expensive, I'm probably just going to save for a while and build a better system.
