First Time Build (Gaming Laptop) $1800

So I was told by a friend who works on these forums that this was the place to get help/planning how to build my rig.

I'm shooting for an $1800 gaming laptop that I will also be using for work projects. I'd mostly be running Steam games off it (Witcher 2, Skyrim, Far Cry 3, Bioshock, etc.)

I had a list of parts that I was working off of but they were all written with the (misinformed) understanding that it was going to be a desktop. I need it to be portable but still have some kickass left over to play graphically demanding games.

Please help a noob out?

Original parts list (for desktop):

-MQ series Processor 4 core

-Maxwell 750 TI

-H81 Motherboard

-E3:1230U3 CPU

-760 GPU

-16 GB ram

-250 GB SSD

-3 TB HardDrive

-Rosewill 500w PSU

First things first: Welcome to the forum. Enjoy your stay.

Also what do you want now a small desktop or a laptop? (building a laptop isn't possible...   Also the pc you had in minde is a very very odd.

I think the best thing for you to do, instead of doing this cold turkey, is to go a few Pre-Built PC/Laptop websites and see what you can create within your budget. This will be a good indicator because the parts those sites will use will all be high-end and new for the most part. Or at least very popular parts.

Some of the sites that come to mind (though Google is your best friend):

Maingear - https://www.maingear.com/custom/computers/custom-built-laptops.php

iBuyPower - http://www.ibuypower.com

CyberPower - http://www.cyberpowerpc.com

Alienware - http://alienware.com

DigitalStorm - http://www.digitalstormonline.com/gaming-laptops.asp

FalconNorthWest - http://www.falcon-nw.com/laptops

XoticPC - https://www.xoticpc.com

PowerNotebooks - http://www.powernotebooks.com

As a slight disclaimer, no, I do not recommend getting it pre-built. Especially if you enjoy the building process in itself. However, anytime I build a gaming laptop with a budget like yours, or $1,500+ I use websites like these to give me an idea of what I can pack in. Keep in mind, you are using these links just as a guide - as building your own you will pack in more of a punch for a lot less money.

Your going to use a laptop processor AND A server processor in this build? I am 10/10 confused about what your asking.

You don't really call a laptop a "build"

Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

Thank you for the replies.

@MrYuriy

That sounds like a good place to start

I'm also quite confused. Its my first time doing this and the parts on that list are for a desktop. When they were originally recommended to me I wasn't that clear on what they were for/compatible with. I'm going to spend today getting an idea of the Laptops I can order and parts that I'll need.

Yup, that's exactly how I intended for you to use what I gave you in my post. Just to get yourself a starting point, a base line per say, of what you are working with.
