Choosing a monitor

Marco2G

Hi everyone

I was actually waiting for the ASUS ROG Swift to come out, because it's a 1440 screen with G-Sync... unfortunately, my monitor just died and smells like exploded capacitor now... I had to take my wife's old Sony monitor, which has 1280x1024 resolution, so you could say I'm out of time ;).

Since G-Sync probably will never hit the market and I need a good monitor now, I thought I'd ask for help. I am very unimpressed with 1080 screens. So resolution should be above that. So far, I've been using a 1050 HP monitor at home and while it wasn't a bad monitor, I'm looking for an upgrade that will wow me...

I was willing to shell out the bucks for a ROG Swift so I'd be happy if the monitor you recommend was in that price range... that's why the 21:9 monitor Linus just showed isn't an option even though I must say I'm very tempted...

To my use cases: I mainly play things like Tomb Raider or Assassin's creed. I have a watercooled ASUS GTX 780 OC card. I would appreciate any bit of beauty the monitor could provide but I have little need for top notch FPS performance, as I never play FPS and if I should happen to change that, I doubt that I will play multiplayer. Sooo... make of that what you will ;).

Thanks for your help.

I'd recommend the Asus PA279Q in that price range. Great monitor.

I just watched Linus' review of that monitor. I am very interested in it. But just for curiosity's sake, what is the big difference between it and the PB278Q?
