5760x1080p gaming

Im going to be buying a parts for a new rig soon and I want to go with Sli 780's but my friend says to go for 1 780 ti and his reasons are that sli can cause issues with certain games and the drivers are a pain what do you guys think I should do?

Go for 780 SLI, you'll want the extra performance with that 3k resolution. As someone that has been using SLI for several generations, it's really no issue at all as long as you can handle the heat and power consumption. I've only had 1 texture stuttering issue in BF3, that was fixed pretty quickly with an update. Other than that, nothing. I'm sure @Lays can confirm.

SLI 780s are better than 780ti, and go for a 1440p, rather than 5760x1080

BS. two 780 outperform a single 780ti by a lot and you wont have many issues in games supporting sli. in games that dont you see like 10% performance less than the 780ti.

There are little to no issues with SLI at this point and two 780's would outperform a 780 Ti.

I'd go for a single R9 290X of crossfire R9 290 as 3 GB is not going to be enough for some games but I'd recommend just getting a single 1440p and a 780 or above as it'll look much better and have full support for all games and is a bit easier to run with it being 2.7K vs 3K.

Yes sir, I'd venture to say 90% of the issues you're ever gonna have with SLI will either be forgetting to turn SLI on, or downloading beta drivers.  Sometimes they're great, sometimes it's nothing but horror. :D

There used to be issues with dual cards. Back in the old days of gaming. I never encountered a single issue with my 470s.

Neither do I, I've used beta drivers like once, Bf4 refused to stay open so I just went back to the drivers I had before and problem solved.

Realistically, who plays crysis 3 on a daily basis :P

When I had my 5760x1080, the only thing I couldn't do was play on the highest AA setting, it'd use a tiny bit over 3gb, but the second highest AA setting was fine. (along with max everything else)

I've had more issues with GK104's in SLI than GK110's. I haven't had a single issue with 780's in SLI, no microstutter nothing extremely low rendering times where as with GK104's here and there a stutter

The issue with SLi and CF has been exaggerated somewhat, I've been running CF for a long while now, and SLi for the last couple of years (or thereabout) and most games do just fine even with the beta drivers. In fact, the last game that didn't like both CF and SLi in a big way was Alan Wake when it was first launched. I believe SLi and CF users had several types of issue with it ranging from choppy gameplay to freezes to hardlocks to BSOD's. But, those issues were fixed after a driver update or two, and perhaps a game patch. Hell, the only game as of late that had an issue with both SLi and CF (that I've played) was Shadow Warrior, note that I'd used 'was' because it's been more or less fixed now since I can leave CF and SLi enabled to play the game w/o issue. Whether scaling is good is another questtion though, suffice to say it ran nicely at 5760x1200, max ingame setting on my main rig, and just peachy @ 1080P maxed out on my SLi rig.

Since you're budgeting and planning for the GTX780 in SLi, I'd say go for it as it's plain and simple, two GTX780's would spank a single GTX780 Ti silly. Whereas a single GTX780 Ti might struggle with some games at 5760x1080, dual GTX780 in SLi would easily handle the games better than a single GTX780 Ti. As to this question of whether 3GB VRAM is sufficient, I can't comment, but it seems 3GB is sufficient for now. Whether it'd be sufficient for the future is up in the air.

You can't play Skyrim in CF right? I couldn't when I tried.

Initially, when I first got it around launch/release, I was able to run it in surround mode with my HD6970, proof that I'd done it is right below:

But strangely, after upgrading to a pair of HD7970's, I tried Skyrim again and surround support went the way of the DoDo. I was never able to get it to run in surround after that, and I sort of lost interest in the game.
