Wait fo x99 or buy z97

I want to know what do you recommend wait until x99 comes and buy the entry level procesor(i think it will be 6-cores) or go for the z97 chipset and the 4790k?

And if you know anything about the pricing of the motherboards and ddr4 it will be appreciated(mainly system use gaming)

First off, why are we talking about things that don't exist/have no confirmation of existing? Second, each tier is catered toward specific usage scenarios. So it's up to you. If you're just gaming then you'll be more than happy with any i5.

No idea as I have no idea when either platform will be releasing.

(although z97 will be soonish, leaks from mobo companies and such).

What are you uses for the system? Are you going to use the extra features X99 is going to offer? Decide for yourself. :D

  • 1 month later...

I'm in the same position, patiently waiting for an asus x99 motherboard and some DDR4 since it was first announced.
If the z77 > z79 release dates are anything to go by, we should expect to see the x99 boards on sale by December or early 2015 with the broadwells desktop processors release date.
Then again they might drag it out even further to allow more sales on the enthusiast level z97 boards and devils canyon cpus.

I'm afraid we won't be seeing them until early or mid 2015. This is most likely due to the Devil's Canyon release just around the corner (Mid-june).

So the question you should be asking yourself is: Is my rig good enough for maybe a year, or do I really need to upgrade to get my enjoyment out of it.

Also, the prices are going to be insanely high for the first bit, as it's completely new tech. The same happened with the DDR2 -> DDR3 transition.
