MSI GS70 or Gigabye Aorus x7

Hey fellow tech heroes/heroines!

I'll be going overseas for work soon and I am thinking about getting a less bulky laptop that I can use for casual gaming! (as the one I am currently using is a 17" Alienware)
Anyway I've been doing tons of research lately and the two top competitors I've drilled it down to are the MSI GS70 & the Aorus X7.

Since i'll be buying in Australia (the land of overpriced).. the GS70 is around $2200 AUD and the Aorus is around $2500.

Both seem very sexy but I think the Aorus looks a bit sexier ;) and that SLI function is awesome! but is it worth the extra 300?

I've never used either brand before so just looking to get opinions about these two or any other sexy laptops?

haha

Thanks for the help!

The MSI will have a better battery life, but the Aorus will be more powerful

If you're playing graphic intense games, Aorus x7, it's gpu performance is basically 2x the GS70. If not then GS70 as it's 0.24 kg lighter than the Aorus x7. If you don't mind the extra 0.24 kg the extra gpu performance is always good to have!

Auorus 100% then, I see no reason to get the gs70

These are still 17", they are thinner and lighter than your m17x but why not look at a 14" model or something? Even if they are light and thin they are still LARGE

Fuck the numpad (not literally)

I think they are good, I have a few friends who have had various gigabyte laptops and they have all been nice.

Im actually looking to get the Clevo W230ST 13" which has a 765m in. Since my M18x is my big gaming machine and I have my new desktop too, I like something small for visint friends/work/travel.  I have the older 11.6" version with a 650m, but its a little TOO small and no backlit keyboard (also a terrible screen though not manufacturers of good 11.6" panels)

Maybe check out the pricing and availability? the build of my w110er is really nice (its like a rubberised soft touch plastic). I mean, its no apple/alienware but i paid like £500, and my alienware was like £3000.

The GS60 in the UK is £1200, I can get the clevo for £650 with an i5 and 765m and IPS display (I can pick from like 20 CPUs from pentium to i7, and pick my ram and drives too, and even have it ship with no OS)

I'd say with any triple A titles there's a 50%-80% performance boost!

The 765M SLI would perform a little bit better than the 860M in the GS60. However, I would think that the Aorus would run quite a bit hotter than the GS60 as well, perhaps negatively affecting the longevity. I think the TDP of a single 765M is 75W while the TDP of a Maxwell 860M is 45W

OVerall I'd tend to prefer a stronger single GPU over SLI, just because of frame pacing issues, and the fact that not every game will scale well.

EDIT: Just out of curiosity, have you looked at any ASUS laptops, or are they a bit too bulky for your taste?

Yeah I was concerned about heating issues as well, but if you look on the gigabytes website for the Aorus, it seems they have added like a plethora of cooling vents haha

I did look at ASUS as well because they have a pretty good reputation but the only "gaming" laptop I could find was the G70~ series? (the stealth design ones) and those are just as bulky as alienware..

The only option you have so that you dont burn your balls and play some games is the gs60.. it has great performance plus by far the best cooling for slim form factor gaming laptops.. any other laptop in the ame design specifications has the problem of overzheating since they cant get effective cooling in such a small design

You don't know the half of it... Maybe one day I will put them all in my sig

Generic, yeah kinda, though it is perfectly nice looking. They are not SUPER THIN but they arent alienware thick either. Its pretty reasonable to me

I would say the aorus just due to the sli 765 cards. I have heard it runs actually very cool for its size

I would not recommend the Aorus because it has heat problems because of the 2 graphics cards and thin design

Do you have any articles or something about the heat problems because most people are saying it runs pretty cool.
