Nvidia but mainly because of software, both give great performance

Ge force experience is fantastic and the way driver updates work is great

getting drivers for my crossfire 7970ms is nightmare, CCC crashes all the time, to update my drivers I have to mess around un-installing the old ones, restarting then reinstalling the new ones and restarting again

where as on my 780ti I just press,"update" and then continue using my pc

They offer good in-betweens for the gaps that nvidia leaves. For example, a r9 290 is in between a 770 and a 780 in terms of price and performance

Overall, I would choose Nvidia, because of heat and features, but that R9 295X2 looks very good as well.

I'm a cheap dude, so I would go for the cheapest, which is usually AMD. I also like what AMD has been doing with their API and VESA standards anyway, so I wouldn't mind supporting them in the slightest. Nvidia has some pretty cool stuff too, but I feel they're too expensive for me to care (GSync and Shield).

Makes perfect sense. Nvidia stomps all over AMD. AMD is more of a cost orientated company.

What does prefer something for performance means? And prefer something for price?  This very cryptic.

it really REALLY depends

sometimes nvidia sometimes AMD

for example when the 290 first launched the price was  amazing i was defenetly gonna buy one but lack of good games att and damn miners hiking up the price

but right now close to maxwell launch i would want an 880GTX for SC also h265 acceleration (hopefully) and improved shadowplay

personally price isnt a major factor for me since i buy one gpu and stick with it for around 3 years

I dont have any preference, I choose my GPU based on what I consider to be better value at the time I'm shopping for a new computer. In my three latest builds it's been AMD (4870, 2x6970 and currently 2x290X) but before that I've had several Nvidia GPUs (Riva TNT, TNT2, Geforce 2 GTS, 7900GT etc.)

Can't say, it's almost apples to oranges

It depends what you want to do.

Do you use applications that take advantage of CUDA?

Plus directx and mantle are gonna change and 'magically' give you more performance.

It also depends on the future of freesync / gsync and monitors that it effects.

People might want a shield.

AMD give better performance per $ for gpu mining.

No it's not. He prefers nVidia because he thinks the performance is better, and he prefers AMD's lower prices.

It makes perfect sense.

Nvidia, mainly because I have had no problems with their drivers yet? With my old AMD cards I always had trouble with CCC. Also i need CUDA for work, so yeah :D

Simeple if he wants to build a budget unit he'd go AMD or else he'd go Nvidia
