New Workstation For Trading

Hi Guys,

I want to build a news trading station for my daily job ( proffesional daytrader)

I am looking:

X99 chipset :

Mobo : Asus workstation

Case: My current Cosmos II

Monitor : 6 X Asus's PB287Q

Videocard: 290X

Cooling: EK H20 Cooling with 1*480 and 1* 360 radiotor

Can somebody tells me how many 290X  I need to use for 6 4K monitors?

Cheers

Kristof

What size 4K monitors will you use if I may ask?

edit: Sorry, now I know.

I think 3-way CF will be able to use 6 "4K" monitors.

For 6 4K monitors, you would want two R9 290X's. Although I would just suggest getting regular R9 290's.

The X99 chipset isn't out yet (as I'm sure you know)

How come you're going to water cool? If all you're doing is running 6 displays, you will be barely stressing your GPU(s) and it won't be too loud.

EDIT: You could actually use 1 R9 290 for 6 displays if you use a display port hub. Although I don't know how well DVI handles 4K so you still might want 2 R9 290's

You might want to plan when the chipset and processor you want actually comes out. Prices fluctuate, so it may be cheaper before then. I think one 290X can use 6 monitors, though I'm not sure if your going to be using it for just the monitors or some rendering or other GPU heavy application.

i don't think the 290 offers a card with enough bandwith to run 6 4k monitors? i think the only bet would be 6-12 Gb titan?

Erm what? He isn't gaming, AFAIK all that day traders do is run a lot of programs. Nothing intensive really. Or, if it is, it's stressing the CPU.

It'll do fine. Here's how:

You use one of these:

And two DVI ports and 1 HDMI port. I think certain monitors would only run at 30hz, but it'd still work.

As for raw GPU power it's plenty. He isn't doing anything intensive.

6-12 gb Titan is your best bet for that many monitors.

now thinking about it why would he need 4k for editing....

i guess the more pixels would allow you to see the ugly details on someones face when editing videos?

4K video editing? What on earth are you talking about? He is a day trader. He does stuff and things with stocks, not rendering videos.

He's not an editor?

@Paralectic

Just driving 4k displays doesn't require an immense amount of GPU power how hard does your graphics card run to drive your 1080p displays when not gaming... not at all he isn't doing any intensive work so what use would 3 290xs be?

More in terms of display ports available to output 4K 60Hz x amount.

i assume he wants it for the real estate, having each monitor split into 1080p monitors, or just generally cramm more windows into each display.

didn't realise vram was a gaming specc.. while gaming does use substantially more memory i would assume he still needs buff memory bus in order to run all those displays at 4k.

Yes, but 4GB would be enough.

bf4 makes things real hard because their is no way you can game on 6 28" 4k screens and unless you enjoy unplugging and plunging monitors i would suggest a second rig for gaming.

if you can afford 6 $800 monitors you can afford a second rig.

130509092312-investing-day-trading-2013-

this is the type of things you will be doing i presume? you wont need a lot of vram. would you be able to post current loads cpu ram load on current set-up it would help to gage the application resource demand.

It shouldn't be an issue. He could just game on one of the displays.
