Black & White Gaming/Workstation PC

blackwhite

For this build I chose components that would make this a great workstation and gaming PC. Silence and elegance were important for me as you'll see in the component explanations.

CPU, 4770K: This is the sweet spot for a workstation/gaming build. It performs excellent in all games and the hyperthreading, while not useful in gaming, certainly comes into play in productivity software.

CPU Cooler, H100i: I bought this before the H105 and H110 came out and I'm very satisfied with the results. I've overclocked the 4770k to 4.4 GHZ @ 1.254v and temperatures are usually in the high 60's low 70's during gaming and high 70's/low 80's while the CPU is being taxed @100%. You could lower the temperatures even more using Noctua NF-F12 fans if you can ignore the ugly color. Finally, the CPU block IMO is much better looking than the new H105/H110. The glossy finish looks great and the corsair LED can be changed to any color of your liking.

Motherboard, Maximus Formula VI: For about $240 openbox at Newegg this was a steal. It has every feature imaginable, many fan headers, excellent onboard sound, the best UEFI interface IMO and of course the beautiful looks.

Memory, Corsair Dominator Platinum: Honestly speaking this for the looks only. Paired with the lighting kit it looks downright spectacular. Dominator Platinum also gets you one of the most reliable RAM kits you can purchase.

Storage, 840 Pro 256GBx2: These SSD's are probably the highest performing and reliable out there. 256GB also means that performance is better than 128 GB's. I don't RAID 0 them. The 2nd SSD is for scratch purposes.

GPU, 780ti: This card plays basically every game @5760x1080 without a hitch. I tried using a GTX 780 but I had to turn a few settings down to get decent FPS. The 2880 cuda cores also help immensely with Premiere.

Case, H440: I loved this case because it went nicely with my setup and has very nice sound dampening. NZXT also made the bold move of removing 3.5" completely which makes the case much more open. Since I don't have any HDD's installed the air flow . The side panel window is also very large and shows just the important bits.

The PSU and fans were also all chosen to match the silence theme of the case.

I purchased a lot of parts during black friday last year so I was able to get some great deals.

Really nice clean build. I'm finding it really hard to decide between this kind of set up or a hard-core enthusiast water cooled rig for my next build.

Love the setup, wish there were more photos of the actual rig itself.

And damn, those monitors look sexy.

-snip-

Also OP, you might want to consider embedding the album or all the individual photos onto LTT for easier viewing.

That is an expensive chair. Can I ask why you invested so much in a chair. I would think it would be normal to buy something around the £100 mark and would go up to a £300 at the most. Does it make a huge difference because I need a new chair (mine is falling apart). I have been looking at the DX Racer chairs. Does anyone know if they are good.

Speakers are the Harmon Kardon Soundsticks w/Bluetooth. The monitors turned out to look much better than I had even thought!

Herman Miller invest a lot of money into R&D so that's where a lot of the money goes. Most of the time these chairs are found in offices where people sit in them for 8-10 hours a day making it crucial to make sure the body isn't being hurt. I've looked at the DX chairs in the past and I would go for it. They look awesome and seems like they've also designed them for ergonomics.

Hey, I remember you posting this on imgur. It's a crazy setup, dude.

Especially considering that your chair costs more than my whole setup, lol
