The good and bad of VR.

madman1876

With vr increasing in popularity there seems to be allot of positives that people claim vr can bring to the table but what about the negatives? In a perfect world there could be all good but since our world is imperfect what are some off the negatives you feel could come up.

Hardware needed to push 120hz 1080p+. Graphical sacrifices for such things. The price. The uncomfortableness of them (for now).

Increased shortsightedness (potentially). Depending on how warm the headgear gets, I'm not sure how else that'd affect your brain/eyes in the long term. Laptop batteries have often been blamed for making men sterile (heating the privates too long/too much as even a little bit of temperature throws off the chemistry), etc.

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Biggest negative I see is parents not proctoring their children during its use. Not VR's fault that crappy parents exist, but I feel it will be an issue.

I am guessing you might get a stiff neck from wearing a vr headset for extended periods of time.

I'll bet a cent that people getting caught masturbating will increase by 20-30%

During the 2-3 years after vr becomes mainstream and they sell in large volumes. There might be at least one display that explodes and blinds someone.

Severe motion sickness in poorly optimized games.

That's all i can come up with right now^^

I cannot wait until we can just put in contact lenses and those will be screens...

Hardware needed to push 120hz 1080p+.

Its only 75Hz at 1080p currently, and greater than 1080p 90Hz supposed for the consumer V1.

Though they have implemented time warping into one of the Oculus SDKs (the latest I think) that should help with frame rate and latency.

For my negatives, at the start lack of content.

Its the one thing that it really needs, that the hardware company in its self can't directly control, outside of offering help/funding to companies to implement it.

Also, those who add "VR support", but it such a bad way that it gives motion sickness. Probably going to be common until people learn.
