Looking at an IR receiver

Bkomnimon
Go to solution Solved by Ertman,

Depends on what you are needing to control the pc for, and what programs.

Flirc is another interesting choice, basically you need to program it to receive commands from any standard ir remote, and it transfers those to keyboard presses. It works well for xbmc, but I do not know what else.

I have a Logitech Harmony 600 and was wondering where could find a receiver to use this with my pc?

I mean I have a K 400 wireless keyboard I us on occasion to pause movies and stuff but is there internal IR receivers or usb?

I know sounds kind of dumb me not knowing but I hadn't ventured into the home theater/ media center arena.

But sense I've started using the keyboard for ps3 it made me wonder about pc and my remote.

this is what I use on my PC, I tossed out the remote and just used the receiver

in the harmony webui add a device, I chose the Microsoft MCE Keyboard (for a reason). Any of the MCE options would work fine though.

I pretty much ONLY use my remote for XBMC, and while XBMC supports IR signals, I chose to use the keyboard because it was easier and I didn't have to do anything. Other than that I added/changed a few of the pre-set button options. To do this, I just looked up what key needed to be pressed inside XBMC to control a function, mapped that key to the button i wanted, and I was on my way.

The same logic should work in different apps as well though.

I remember seeing an HP one when I worked at a tech shop man wish I had kept that... just tossing remote is wasteful though.

I may just keep a casual watch out if I will have to do that I'd rather not toss plastic or try sale remote off. Just something I thought of randomly today that re-entered my brain.

Thanks
