Need DIY audio help

Razyre

Hi there.

I've been tearing my hair out trying to sort out a little DIY audio project I'm trying to put together.

Basically I just want some really civilian speakers I can put in a small box or two for a reasonably cheap price.

Needs:

- 2 Speakers around 5-10W

- Compatible Amp of a small size which can run off of 12V (can be wide input, I don't care)

- No larger than 2.5 inches/63mm diameter

- No deeper than 2 inches/50mm

- Clean sounding audio

- Cost less than $50/£30 (ideally much less if possible)

Bonus:

- I live in the UK so UK suppliers are happily welcome.

I have an HDMX jam speaker which I use just to take out and piss around with my friends. I quite enjoy the audio on this but it's not very loud. I doubt that the speaker is rated more than a few watts.

Do note I am really not looking for top notch audio, it just needs to be decent for the price. Good enough to enjoy music, perhaps games from a laptop etc. I can sort out interlinking devices, it's the amp and the speakers I need.

Thanks

is the 2.5" x 2" the size of just the amp or both amp and speakers?

I'm thinking your easiest option would be to go buy a small set of computer speakers, double check that it takes 12v, and just rehouse it.

Will work for electronic components and parts

@creatip123 Thanks for the link, but most of the speakers are at least 3.5" and high wattage.

@t0wer 2.5" x 2" is the max size of each driver not including the amp. I can't really be specific about amp size without knowing what I want.

Definitely an option but I want to look at self built options first ^^

Instead of putting the speakers together yourself you could save some time and possibly some money just buying some pre built speakers. Dayton B652 and a Lepai LP-2020A+ amp. I have built speakers before and they worked great but it can be a lot of work and can go really wrong if you make a mistake.

Too bad. In my country there's an electronic market complex that sells electronic insides (like resistors, capacitors, ICs, etc). They sell everything about audio and speakers too. You can even design the speaker boxes yourself and have them build it for you. Or, back to topic, get speaker drivers, from tiny buzzers to 15" subs, and build it yourself. Maybe you can find place like that in the UK?

There are places you can buy that sort of stuff but it's the speaker department that is either lacking or I'm looking for the wrong thing.

The exact thing I want to do is build it myself man. I need some help /finding/ the components. That's what I'm asking for here. Required needs are at the top.

Have you looked at Parts Express?

Thanks for the help guys but I've found some speakers, FINALLY!

Found this German company called Visaton and they do a 1.8" 4W RMS speaker with an 8W max, produces frequencies in the range of 90-20000Hz which I thought was pretty nifty, so ordering two of them from a UK supplier called "RS".
