I wanted to ask if any1 can help me with overclocking my ram module. I've got Kingston HyperX Red 1600MHz  4GB and i want to overclock it to 1866 (or even higher) cuz my system is apu a8-5600k and it benefits alot from memory speed. It only works for me when i put xmp profile 1600Mhz-cl9-9-9-27, but when i put everything on auto and turn pc on after few min scren starts to change colours in smthing undefined like when graphic dies. i've tried to put 1866mhz&rest on auto same thing happens. Any kind of help is welcome.

By the way how safe is to overclock it, even if it's "better quality ram"?

Try:

Set manual ram channel voltages to 1.65 V.

Set manual timings to 9-11-9-27, command rate = 2T

CPU: Intel i7 3970X @ 4.7 GHz  (custom loop)   RAM: Kingston 1866 MHz 32GB DDR3   GPU(s): 2x Gigabyte R9 290OC (custom loop)   Motherboard: Asus P9X79

Case: Fractal Design R3    Cooling loop:  360 mm + 480 mm + 1080 mm,  tripple 5D Vario pump   Storage: 500 GB + 240 GB + 120 GB SSD,  Seagate 4 TB HDD

PSU: Corsair AX860i   Display(s): Asus PB278Q,  Asus VE247H   Input: QPad 5K,  Logitech G710+    Sound: uDAC3 + Philips Fidelio x2

Uhm... if it doesn't burn you, it's still safe.

...and none of this could work.

manually set your dramV, 1.55V to 1.7V

timings of 11-11-11-27 CR 1T (everything else AUTO unless you really want to dabble)

start with 1800 and go for 2000 or 2133MHz, bandwidth will help more than nice timings in this case. though, very high chance you wont get more than 1866...

Testing...

HCIMemtest, run a couple of 512MB tests until 1000% coverage. finish off with a superpi 32M test.

Learn how to reset your bios before hand.

overclock the frequency along with the voltage to keep it stable ,although overclocking RAM is really really not advised at all because it will run fine for a wile and then start causing problems and shutdowns  every now and then ,it's speed wont effect performance that much ,if you really want faster loading and more speed out it ,upgrade ,go for an 8GB Kit of what ever speed (a Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz perhaps ) ,"8GB is more then enough"

 Crust : Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.4Ghz 1.45v  |  MotherboardMSI Z97 MPower  |  Fruity FillingMSI GTX 960 Armor 2Way-SLI |  CoolingNoctua NH-D15  |  RAM : 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz | Storage : 2xSamsung 840 EVO 500GB SSDs Raid-0  |  Power Supply : Seasonic X-Series 1250W 80+Gold  |  Monitor : Dell U2713HM 27" 60Hz 1440p  |

dude, if i've had enough money i would rather buy 1866MHz ram or even better but y'kno it's kinda hard to deal with low budget :S

The ram you have is already at 1.65volts and runs 1600mhz. So most likely it is actually 1333 ram they upped the voltage to and got it to run 1600mhz without errors.

Most likely you will be stuck at 1600 and 1.65 volts.

The only chance I see you running higher would be to try 1866 10-10-10-30 2T at 1.65 volts and if that doesnt work then there is no point in going any further as you will have to increase CL beyond where speed makes up the difference and you are already at a voltage limit of 1.65. Yes you can push the voltage higher but I consider 1.65 the highest for a 24/7 rig.

Thanks alot, Voltage is 1.65max so i let it stay on auto and set 11-11-11-30 @ 1866 it works and am getting 15% fps incrase in games now.

You're right but latency on cl9 @ 1600 is 61.5ns and on cl11 @1866 is 61.7ns so i think it doesnt matter i rather let latency be higher so i think it is less likley to "fail" while working.

well as i said and you can ask any one about this ,overclocking ram is highly not recommended  ,wait and upgrade will be so much better and more helpful than overclocking RAM ,is all i'm saying
