Which storage solution for this "budget" build.

EpicGeekonFire

are you going to play games that take up alot of storage, if so go 1tb but if you play games that dont take that much storage go with the SSD

The SSD should be fine if you have already a spare hard drive laying around. If not then I advice you going with HDD first and then buy a reasonably priced SSD.

Watch out, there might be ninjas out there

but putting everything on an SSD is a bit retarded and ssd die out faster with always writing and rewriting.... Maybe the HDD is more practical.

SSD all the way. If you don't need the storage go for the speed (although 120GB could be little less for OS + Programs ?). If it comes to durability: I'm assuming you won't use it as a scratchdisk so the SSD should easily survive as long as the HDD (if not longer cause it nearly can't break because of physical movement etc.).

  • Primary PC: i7-3770K@4,6GHz | Thermalright Macho | ASRock Z77 Extreme 4 | 16 GB Corsair Vengeance@1866MHz | 2x Gigabyte 660ti 3GB@1130MHz | 256 GB Samsung 840 | WD Black 1TB | BeQuiet! DarkPower Pro 650W | Zalman Z11
  • Secondary PC: i7-860@3,1GHz | Scythe Katana 3 | ASUS Maximus III Formula P55 | 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz | 2x Zotac GTX 280@650MHz | WD Velociraptor 500GB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB | BeQuiet! DarkPower Pro 750W | Coolermaster Cosmos S

I would go SSD first (If it is a new build), then save up for a cheaper hard drive such as a WD blue or red. It is a pain to move just your OS to another drive, but you will find than a 120GB SSD will fill up quickly

My PC:

4670k      GTX 760 ACX      CoolerMaster Hyper 412s      Fractal Design Node 804      G1 Sniper M5      Corsair RM 650      WD Red 1TB     Samsung 840 Evo 120GB

@EpicGeekonFire If you really don't need the storage get the SSD though I think it would fill up too fast so I'd take the HDD.

You could always go the whole "SSD boot drive, HDD everything else" route:

64GB SSD Boot Drive, plus some apps: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/a-data-internal-hard-drive-asp600s364gmc

320GB HDD: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/western-digital-internal-hard-drive-wd3200aajb

Total price: $83.45 (closer to $90 if you buy both from Amazon)

Or buy the larger capacity SSD now and get the HDD when you need it.

for a budget build, yes it is because a hard drive is fine for booting and programs and games and then you could save up some money you could get a SSD like this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/crucial-internal-hard-drive-ct120m500ssd1 for an upgrade

BUT: It's much cleaner to do it the other way around. If you're upgrading to an SSD when you've already installed your OS etc., you'll either need to do a reinstall or use a transfer program, which tend to leave some waste. I would go for an SSD now and get an HDD later.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I might as well get the HDD being the same price as the SSD and more storage. It has enough speed for me, but I hope it lasts.

but then you cant really install the games you want to with just the SSD and re-installing isn't that hard if you use http://ninite.com/

It isn't hard, but it's time consuming - especially if you've already installed a bunch of games.
