I am just looking for a cheap tv to buy so that my son's step mom doesn't have to shell out for one. Yesterday while in the car with them I heard them talking about saving up for a tv and I would just like to buy them something outright but I have to keep it affordable. I am in Canada but can have them pick something up in the US in Port Huron, MI area. Help is greatly appreciated here.

Sharp aren't a bad company and I would go with them as I have heard of them and have a few products from them. Look at which one has the best warranty too.

But definitely sharp.

I had a 720p/1080i 42" Sharp Aquos, and I loved it. It's 8 years old, and I still have it in my living room. (Of course I've upgraded to a nicer TV, but that's in my bedroom =P)

Anyways, the HDMI board on the TV went out after it was 3-4 years old. It nearly almost killed the TV as I was having a hard time finding an affordable solution to getting it repaired. I found a TV repair shop that only charged me $90 to replace the entire HDMI board in the TV.

Ever since then, I treat the HDMI ports like a baby. The problem with my TV was that the HDMI ports were at the top of the TV and the weight of the cable, along with the fact the hdmi port was vertical not horizontal, caused the connector to sag inside the port. The repair guy pointed this out to me and mentioned that some pins were bent in my old board and that I should take better care with the new one.

That's my experience with Sharp. I'm happy with the brand overall, and if the price was right, I would most likely buy another.

I dont really like Insignia. They're one of the budget brands like vizio, and westing house. I had a 27" insignia for my first LCD TV and it lasted me 2 years before dying.  It didn't survive a power surge from when my dorm was struck by lightning, I was happy it died though I didn't really like watching TV on it. The picture wasn't that great.

Just my 2c on the brands

First off I want to spend as little as possible as I really don't have much to spend. Secondly there is no merging of money. The two tvs I listed were ones I was choosing between. As for a bigger panel eh if you saw their tv right now which is a bububble screen CRT they would be happy with anything reasonable. I almost cried when I saw their tv recently.

I thought of looking at an affordable monitor for me that would cost less than one of these tvs before tax so I saved money here in all this and so just give them the 40" tv I am using now but I don't know if I can stand playing games for pc on something smaller than the 40" tv I have been using for over a year now and before that I used a 32" tv. I am so used to much larger than norm screens for pc gaming :S

I did more and more research today and I just keep thinking to myself I just wish I had more money to make things easier.

I am now thinking of getting this monitor for me http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-series-2-s27c230b-27in-13-88494-1070.htm for $199.99 and then just giving my son's step mom the 40" Samsung tv I am using right now. Thing is I wish I could have it in front of me to test and see just how big it really is say compared to the 32" tv I used to game on. I prefer big screen and I am just wondering if 27" monitors are measured differently than 27" tvs?
