My parents own a large property and they put me in charge of running cable to a homestead and maybe my little bro's treehouse (if the cost allows it) So does anyone know where I can get hundreds of feet of cat6 cable?

Just go to your local electrical wholesaler.

What kind of treehouse has ethernet? Are you renting it out to anyone, sounds like a treehouse I'd like to live in. Possibly even worthy of the name "Fort"

I wired my house with cat5e just cause it was a lot cheaper and none of my runs were going to be long enough to justify the additional insulation within the cat6 cable.

I walked into home depot and picked up a 1000ft box for ~$100. I've still got leftovers I use to make my own ethernet cables lol

EDIT:

That ebay listing is rather inticing though, decent price

It's the size of a shack, suspended in a tree. Me and my dad built it two summers ago and my little bro hangs out in it with his friends. It is definitely worth the title "fort"

Keep in mind, Ethernet can only run a maximum of 100 meters, but most say 85-90, on the safe side.

If you need to go further than you will need switch(s) to rebroadcast the information.

Any electrical wholesaler.

If you're buying that amount, also make sure you have the wing clips and a punch to put the ends on :P

I can't believe there is a market for that...

It would take less than a minute to make the whole damn thing.

How would you make a cat 6 cable at home?

I myself have close to a kilometer of the stuff on a cable drum, blank connectors, a punch, and a certificate or two in electrotechnology.

It's actually really easy. just note the colour code after stripping the ends for the first connector, punch it together, do the same for the other end/plug but alternate the colour code.

You know have a cat6 patch cable.

If you wanted to be anal about it you could check the continuity of each cable, but if you didn't cheap out on the cable, it will be guaranteed to work.
