The noctua and corsair fans are very good. ones not on the list that are extremely good are the Scythe Gentle Typhoon and NoiseBlocker E-Loop. Those are both really quiet and great for use with radiators too.

What are you going to be using the fans for? Different fans are good for different tasks. For example, the Corsair SP120 is good for radiators where static pressure is needed, while the AF120 is good for open air usage where you don't have many obstructions in the way.

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

By air cooling do you mean case fans or heatsink fans? Corsair AF are alright casefans, and so are NF-F12's and Silverstone AP121 air penetrators. The NF-F12's are probably the best on that list for use on something like a CoolerMaster Hyper212 or NH-D14. Corsair SP series fans are designed more for use on heatsinks like these and the AF series are more for areas with less obstruction (so, case fans).

I should probably also mention I don't have very good experiences with Corsair fans, the same as a lot of people on this and other forums. My SP120L's and SP120 Performance Editions are loud as hell, though I haven't tried the SP120 Quiet Editions. I'm unimpressed with the amount of air moved by my AF120 Quiet Editions also.

corsair fans are NOT very good. They are very loud and don't perform that good. But in its defense, it is cheap at a price of 15 dollars a fan.

I have 6 SP120's and they are amazing. They push air well, are quiet with the speed reducers, and look really nice.

Nope. They are mediocre fans. They're better than most stock fans, but don't perform well as high end fans.

what about the nfs12a?

Great as a low restriction exhaust fan--also a decent intake if the ventilation holes are open.

I've used both the Corsair 120's and Noctua NF-S12A's  The sound factor alone was a MASSIVE change, so much so I even pulled the Hydro H80i I had running and put in a NH-U14S in it's place.  I find myself checking to make sure the fans are running they're running so silent.  And I only see about a 2 degree C change in temp from the H80i.

This was my first build and I can say I paid more money than I should have but I learned from those mistakes.  Noctua all the way, I like the Beige and Brown now.

For unrestricted ventilation, I was pleasantly surprised by the Corsair AF 140 (quiet version)

But nothing beats the Noctua NF-S12.

Personally, I go with fans that are aesthetically pleasing to me and match my build, so it varies. But putting that aside, AF 120s are decent at best and I'd go with something like a NF-S12. I'd also recommend taking a look at Eloops or Black Silent Pros.
