Why isn't 21:9 aspect ratio called 7:3?

I have always wondered why and I couldn't find anything on google.

I think it's because its sort of """based off of""" 16:9, so it gives people a better frame of reference of what it is...that's just my guess though.

Sounds better probably, and because there's ratios like 20:9 and 21:10 and some people are too stupid to figure out that 7:3 is 21:9 and is inbetween 20:9 and 21:10

everyone is used to saying and using 21:9, I don't think there is a specific reason why they don't call it 7:3

Because it's 16:9 and stupid folks wouldn't understand that 7:3 is more than 16:9

probably just for convenience to be able to compare them more easily, i mean 16:9  16:10   21:9 ..... 16:10 might aswell have been 8:5, but it isn't, atleast not in most cases.

Because 21:9 is easily comparable to 16:9 allowing you to easily understand the difference when seeing the numbers written down.

It's wider than both of them so it can be considered either one stretched out.  Just one stretched out more than the other.

But no one generally compares to 4:3 anymore... actually if you say 4:3 most people wouldnt even know what your talking about sadly.

well ipads still use 4:3 aspect ratio unfortunately

Thought they used 5:4, at least at one point but I might be wrong. I persoanlly see no issues with 4:3 as its better at the same screen size (diagonal) for everything but consumption. There is a reason why quite a few of us prefer 16:10 height matters.

well i have watched old shows on my ipad that use 4:3 and it fills up the screen totally, and i do use a 16:10 monitor for a second monitor
