I really don't trust those Korean monitors, so I'd say 1920x1200, but you really don't need 144Hz, 1ms. Go with the Dell U2412M.

For competitive gamers, the higher refresh rate and response times are preferable; however, for a casual gamer and those more interested in exploration and eye candy, 1440p is the way to go. With your budget though, I'd consider the 144Hz monitors because cheap Korean 1440p IPS monitors suck.

Intel Core i7-5930K | Noctua NH-D15S | ASUS X99-M WS | 32GB (4 x 8GB) G.Skill Ripjaws V 2666MHz | MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti Gaming 6G | Samsung 850 Pro 512GB | Seasonic 660XP2 | Phanteks Enthoo EVOLV

LG 34UM95-P w/ Ergotron MX  | O2/ODAC | Audioengine A5+ w/ AS8 | Sennheiser HD 598 | Ducky Shine 3 | Cooler Master Storm Spawn

The higher refresh rate monitors are 1920x1080 btw.

If you want a prettier image go for the 1440p monitor. But if you want a smoother game play experience, that might not look as pretty but will give the best competitive and fluid experience then a 144hz, 1ms, 1080p monitor will be a better choice.

Of the two you showed I'd probably get the ASUS VG248QE.

1440P, but don't count on OCing, some monitors appear OC'd but duplicate each of the 60 frames rather than showing 120 unique ones. If you can stretch the budged for a PB278Q then go for that

Dont rely on "ms" given by companies they are mostly bullshit

go check out reviews

the fastest IPS is AH-IPS and PLS

TN is by far superior but it doesn't really look good vs IPS

8ms is on the borderline of being able to notice input lag and things. I'd go for the 144Hz monitor. Even though you're a casual gamer, you should still appreciate the (really noticeable) smoothness

I usually don't get monitors w/ a response time > 6ms. Personal preference though.

W/ that said I've got the VG248QE and I love it. There's a light boost "hack" for 2D mode that eliminates motion blur completely. Even w/ the 780ti I still need to turn down some graphics settings to be able to get 144fps. So it's a bit overkill, but I like the monitor nonetheless. The built in crosshair feature is awesome, I use it when I play FPS; So handy.
