D7100 or D5300?

Hey guys, I'm planning on starting photography and I was wondering which camera would be better for photo and video quality. This is going to be my first DSLR camera. I want to have a camera that will last longer (technology wise), I don't want to feel like upgrade every year like computers.. I plan on doing low light, family pictures, street photography and kind of close ups of whatever. I plan on getting the 18-140mm and the 35mm lens. My budget is around $1000 for just the camera body,

I have a few questions about the D7100, Does this camera shoot full HD 1080p at 30FPS? I'm a bit confused because on the website it's like 1080p 60i, 30p and so on...

Thanks.

Yes, the D7100 shoots 1080p at 30FPS video. Since this is your first DSLR I would suggest going for the simpler D5300 and invest in more/better lenses. Both cameras are superb and you can't go wrong with either of them.

In my opinion i would go with the full frame D7100 as it a monstor of a camera, even though the D5300 is still a beast of a camera. Going with a D7100 gives you a lot of growing room when it comes to learning what each button and wheelie thing can do. 30p means 1080p at 30 fps so it can do Full HD.

So all-in-all i would go with the Nikon D7100, unless you need a tilty flippy screen then the D5300 is the one to go with, but i would personally go with the D7100.

The D7100 has an APS-C sized sensor ...

Isn't the d7100 a crop sensor camera?

Doesn't the d5300 have better low light performance because of the better processor?

If you are happy without the articulate screen, you will be more happy with the D7100 for photography and normal video capture usages. I am owning a D7000 and hoping to upgrade with the D610, but the specs aren't that attractive, so I stay with my D7000 longer.

*The dual SD slots definitely an advantage as you don't know what will happen to your SD cards when you shooting important things, the duplicate function is pretty much safe the day. B)

I think it's a tiny difference. But I think the 40 extra focus points, higher dynamic range etc is worth more (basically, all the extra stuff it says here for the D7100)
