CPU Fan Error. What?! But I see them running!

ManBehrPig

Ok so near as I can tell it seems that my noctua CPU heat sink fans are spinning too slowly for my motherboard to detect them and as a result it is halting my boot into BIOS. Does anyone know of a way I can get to advanced BIOS to change the default without going through the hassle of temporarily installing the case fans onto the heat sink? The mobo is an Asus P9 X79-E WS and the sink, a big one, the NH-U14S. Thank you in advance for whatever help and suggestions you might have.

In the advanced BIOS there should be a CPU Fan speed in the CPU section, mine has it. if yours does try turning it up

you can completely disable the "stop boot when fan error"-thingy somewhere in the bios. I just dont know where exactly, but its definitely there.

That is what I'm saying I want to do but it freezes before I get into bios so I can get into advanced BIOS. Not sure how to bypass that so I can change the default.

I dont think there is a way to bypass that, try temporarily removing the heatsink, put a case fan on top of it and try it again if its about heat

if its about cpu fan error i dont specialize in that >.>

Linus must have run into this issue. The build is based on his ultimate video editing build last Nov.

How do I get to the BIOS before it freezes? This is my first build.

I have never used BIOS in my life.

No dice. It's not responsive to F2 nor F1, which it says in the error message will allow the continuance of the setup. Plus tried reset button, that doesn't work either. Kind of frustrating.

try connecting your keyboard to a different usb port, or try a different keyboard if you have one. you should be able to enter the bios with either f1 or f2.

Just a silly thing that comes to mind on initial reading.  You do have the heatsink fan plugged in to the CPU fan header not some other header?

I had the same problem with my NH-U14S and Asus Maximus VI Hero, but I was able to get into BIOS to disable the fan speed alert.

what Bagmup said, never heard of fans spinning to slow for bios, you wont gain access to bios as long as it thinks you don't have a fan plugged in, are you sure you have it plugged into the right fan header on the motherboard? need to be plugged into the one that says cpu on it, you don't have to remove the heatsink, you could just try plugging some random fan into the cpu fan header on the mobo and plug your heatsink fans elsewhere.

if your fans spin that slow, as in barely spinning AT ALL, something else is wrong.

Every fan header on the board is plugged into. Plus they all seem to be moving a fair bit of air, none of the would I term as barely moving. Overall I'm just befuddled. Tomorrow morning I'll test out my keyboard on someone else's Mac to make sure that it works. Beyond that I will try unplugging one of the two heat sink fans and plug in one of the case fans I took out to see if I can trick the motherboard. Outside of that. I don't know what I'll do. Hopefully Asus customer care will get back to me Monday after the message I left last Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who has tried to help. I appreciate it.

I had this issue before and i solved it by ziptieing my 4pin cpu fan to the top inside of my case. No more fan error. I know this isnt the proper solution but it was a good enough temperary fix untill i took the time to fix it right.  I dont rember howi fixed it though sry.

I will do the best I can to help in any way. However I am not all knowing and realize that I can be wrong.
