PC BSoD's before I can even login to windows

CCap

Hello Forum:

Yesterday after trying to create a new VM, my PC continues to BSOD before I am even able to login to windows. I tried to disable virtualization technology in the bios, but the issue persisted.

The Error code associated with my BSoD is dpc_watchdog_violation

My Specs are:

Intel i7-4770k @4.0 GHz with 1.2v

Asus Maximus VI Gene

16GB Corsair Dominator Platinums (running at stock 1866)

GTX 780ti reference card

Rosewill Lightning 1300w power supply (waaaay too much, I know)

Samsung Evo 250GB

Seagate Barracuda 2TB

*EDIT* added storage to OP, didn't include it by accident :3

Any help you could give me would be great.

Maybe this has some info you might need http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-system/dpc-watchdog-violation-windows-8-solved/8ce8fa54-9e1b-4b57-98b2-4dbb2a25864e The guy got it when he played games but the troubleshooting steps would be the same.

Boot from another HDD and do the steps from there.

@DIV1D3

I think it might be because I never updated my firmware for my 840 Evo...

According to this, outdated firmware can contribute to the error I'm having.

Several things can cause a DPC Watchdog Violation to be triggered in Windows 8. One of the most common is an SSD drive that has old firmware not supported by Windows 8. Another likely cause is an outdated driver for one of your hardware components. For example, if your sound card driver does not support Windows 8, simply plugging in a set of headphones could produce a DPC Watchdog Violation error. While not as common, software installations that affect yoursystem software could also lead to DPC Watchdog Violations and the corresponding blue screen of death.

So from what I can find out, the issue at hand is in fact the SSD. The only issue is, I can't even log into windows to update the firmware of the drive.

Does anybody know how I would be able to update the firmware of my SSD without booting into windows? If so, that'd be great.

;D

I booted into safe mode and was able to download samsung magician from there. After it installed and I went to update the firmware, supposedly it is on the latest firmware...

Now I am back to square one. What else can be causing the issue?

EDIT (again): I just tried to refresh my Windows and when I did so, it told me that my "Windows drive was locked"... how does one 'unlock' their drive?

Fuck it, I'm just going to boot into safe mode, get any important files I might have accidentally threw on my ssd and completely reinstall windows.

Try these steps http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/faq/id-1656392/fix-dpc-watchdog-violation-error-windows.html if neither of these steps work then your looking at faulty hardware.

Thank you for that link, I'm scanning for errors on my SSD now, and if that doesn't work them I am going to just clean install windows.
