5000€ PC - Please help/advice

SmauG

Hello,

Actually, i'm gonna totally change my pc for a new rig for at least 4 years, so i'm planning to spend 5000€ (~7000$). Among gaming i also design (3ds, autocad), render videos and code, so must be good for it (though i guess a gaming pc with this budget should fit good).

I need the PC + monitor, and i want a custom WC (liked xspc comps, but i'm new on WC so i'm totally open to suggestions). I might be able to add like 1000€ if really needed, but isn't my intention.

My idea was something like this:

Chasis: Corsair 900D
Cooling: Custom WC XSPC with corsair fans.
Mobo: Asus ROG Rampage IV Black Edition
Proc: i7 4930K
RAM: 8x8Gb Corsair dominator platinum (pc 19200, cl10)
GPU: 2x Nvidia 780GTX Ti (reference, as they'll be WC)

SSD: 2x Samsung EVO 512 gb (raid 0)

(Optional HDD: 2x4tb WD Black - If possible, althoug i already own like 20tb of external storage).
PS: Corsair AX1200i
Sound: Creative zx or asus rog phoebus
Monitor: Asus PA279Q

As said, that was just my try, as i'm not really up-to-date on hardware news I'm totally open for a full change.

I've already own mice (G500s), keyboard (G19s), headset (G930) and speakers (Gigaworks S750).

Now few questions:

- There are announced any incoming big new? I'd like to wait to intel 8-core (AFAIK, summer) and NVIDIA 8xx desktop series, and at really most i can wait until Q1 2015 (but my idea is to pick it at most after this summer). Does it worth to wait? (I'll change it about 5 years after i buy it).

- My speakers are analogic (7.1, 700W, THX, EAX). Will i notice an increase of sound quality moving to optical ones? (For example Logitech Z906)

- It's easy to adapt to a dual-tri monitor configuration? If yes, what would you pick to this PC? If not, which monitor would you pick?

- Does 4k monitor really worth right now?

- I know it's a lot of ram, but i've saw that the mobo lets use it as hdd (just while turned on) so i may benefit from it while rendering or even playing (though i don't almost turn the pc off).

Guess that's all, i'll update if needed.

Thanks.

Raiding ssd's is not wise get a single tb one. Wait for haswell-e definitely. There are no digital speakers... so... 4k monitors are not exactly worth it right this moment but in half a year they should be.

If you have good sound card or DAC/AMP then you don't need no optical connections.

i would take those 2 780tis and make them 780s its not really worth the 400-600$ extra they are. or you could wait a couple weeks and get a r9 295x2 (this is what i would do);.

also get a 1tb sdd or 1 512gb ssd and a 2 tb hdd. no mater what you do with a 7k usd budget your build will be overkill.

i recomend you spend about 3500 of the 7k on your machine and then invest in good peripherals like 3 way monitors, good kb and mouse, a good set of speakers and headphones and a amp/dac, along with somthing like a at2020 mic

The build you showed us looks fine as it is except the fact that I would go 1 TB SSD over dual because it is more reliable.

Oh, and two more questions:

-Anyone knows if there's an estimated date for Maxwells GPU?

-Does it worth to watercool whole pc (for better and silent performance) or better just pick a closed WC to proc (h110 maybe?) and quad 780ti with air cooling? I've asked about my custom WC and it's about 1200€, which almost is the value of 2 more GPU.

Probably next year for your first question. So 780ti's is what to go for.

I think you should go closed WC and graphics card air cooling.
