Should I get an FX 9590 or FX 8350 and overclock it?

by most people logic of buy the fx8350 for £30 more than the 8320, thats £30 for 0.5ghz. in that case the 9370 is better value cos its only £150 which is £50 more for 0.9ghz.

get an 8350 and overclock it, or get a 4670k.

4770k = £235

8350 = £130

 

I should damn hope it does for that price difference. But he is WANTING AN AMD BUILD not an Intel....

He also mentioned 9590 :\, which is more expensive than the 4770k.

Breaking clock speed records is not as good as just flat out better performance, no need to even overclock the thing.

FX 9590, it is a better chip compared to the FX 8350, plus it would be easier to get to above 5ghz

also the only boards cut out the handle that chip are the UD5, Sabertooth, UD7, and CVFZ, with preference to the latter two boards.

 

those costs and the cost of cooling is typically why anything above 8350 makes little sense over an i7 IMO.

Do you think the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev 4.0, whatever that means) would be good for overclocking, then? The two main things about the Extreme9 that attract me are the price tag (compared to other high-end boards) and that it supports 64GBs of RAM.

I have the Extreme9. It's K. Overclocking is kind of hit-or-miss, sometimes it just doesn't take for some reason, and the UEFI sucks. And it only really supports like 2 RAM kits at the 2400mhz they quote. And the drivers are kind of a cluster. And the PCB is brown and not black.

But all that said, it's probably the best 990fx board in the price range (and is definitely the most feature-full) if you can catch it at the right price (which is usually, though sometimes it's the same price as the Sabertooth for no reason, in which case I'd recommend that).
