Is there anything that anyone would suggest I change?

Hello forum users,

I am currently planning on building a new PC and I was wondering if what I have planned is a good balance between all the parts. I am going for a small build, yet fairly strong.

The specs are as follows:

- CPU: Intel Core i5 4670k

- CPU Cooler: Noctua NHD - 14 (or 15 if it is out)

- Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Gene

- Case: BitFenix Prodigy M

- PSU: Silverstone Stirder 850W 80+ Silver

- GPU: Asus GTX 780

- RAM: 8GB G.Skill Trident X 2400 MHz

- Storage: Intel 530 240GB SSD (+ WD Black 2TB later)

- OS: Windows 8.1

I have been configuring it with a mate of mine and I have thought it through and we both agree it is a solid build, but I was hoping I could get some other opinions too.

Any suggestions would be fantastic!

Cheers!

Yeah it's fine

you could lower the PSU to 650, save some money there and on the power bill  :)

That's not saving him any money on the power bill

I would suggest a RM650 since you won't be upgrading. It's 80PLUS Gold so it will save you money on the power bill

Intel Core i5 3570K@4.5GHz | ASRock Z77 Extreme4 | 2*TEAM 8GB DDR3-1600@CL9-9-9-27 | Inno3D GTX 660 HerculeZ 2000s@1200MHz Core 6600MHz Memory | Seagate Barracuda 2TB | Antec Kühler H2O 620 | Antec HCG-620 | CoolerMaster Elite 371

Acer Iconia W700: Intel Core i5 3337U | 4GB DDR3 | 120GB SSD | 11.6" 1080p Display

than you don't know how psus work. I would go with a 550-600W 80+gold psu fot that build.

Looks like a dream build :)

But I personally wouldn't go with a mobo that high-end and a PSU that high wattage.

And the RAM is a bit unnecessarily high clocked, but i don't know if these would save money or if you're even looking to.

Stock coolers - The sound of bare minimum

It will only deviler the power needed, you dont't think you're actually going to use 550w constantly, do you?

Efficiency, my friend. If you draw 400 watts from an 800 watt PSU, and it's not nearing it's optimal efficiency, it will consume a little more power, if memory serves me.

As for the OP, get something like an RM650 for the PSU.

Yes but a more appropriate PSU will deliver higher efficiency in AC to DC conversion which will save money.

Ok thanks. How about the Corsair CS750M? It's modular and 80+ Gold. Would that be better?

No. The RM650 is fully modular (the CS is semi-modular) and is just better all around.

In this situation it'd use less power due to it being in its peek of the efficiency curve far more often than a 1000W.
