Separate audio from programs when recording?

Stads0

Hi guys I am new here,

So I am looking for software that can separate the audio from different programs when recording. In addition I would prefer that it be free, however I understand that sometimes the only option is to pay.

Anyway so I use PlayClaw to record video and it has the ability to save different audio sources into different tracks so that they can be edited by themselves as oppose at the same time. So I have one for my mic and one for computer sounds, however sometimes I will be doing something where someone is talking to me on Skype and it would be great to have Skype sound as it's own channel. So then I could lower the computer sounds and yet keep their volume correct, or mute something they are saying and keep the computer sounds there.

Anyways so I found this however I have found it costs money, only a little but I thought I may as well ask on here just incase there was something out there that can do it better or perhaps for free.

If anything doesn't make sense, just let me know and I'll reword it ;)

Well thanks in advance!

You can mute Skype in volume mixer in the volume icon in the taskbar.

Okay, sorry about the weird colour. Fixed it ;)

The issue with that is, I still want to record the audio from Skype or team speak or whatever it is, I just want to have it separate from computer or game sounds. To my understanding muting Skype in the volume mixer will cause it to not be recorded at all.

There is free option for VAC called VB Audio Virtual Cable. Downside of being free is that you can only add one virtual channel. I've used it to filter TS3 from my speaker output. Their site has other interesting audio projects but I don't understand that much of them.

Black text on the dark theme doesn't work very well.

That's why users shouldn't make text in any color. If its just default it will be black in normal and white-ish in dark.

Run skype/vent/teamspeak/etc. on a different system (I have done this with my laptop before) and record them separately and sync them up in editing. Another possibility is that you run skype in a VM(Virtual Machine) and record in there, but I not 100% sure that would work as I have never tested it.

This is a little bit of work but it might be worth a try to some.

I had a bit of look into that, but I couldn't find a way of splitting audio from different programs. Only a way to redirect the entire computer sound which includes everything...

Can you explain how exactly I can split different audio, if it does in fact have the functionality?

That is a good idea, and I could possibly do it as a last option however I'd prefer not to have to do that due to in-game push to talk and whatnot. But that is a good idea and if I cannot find any other solution I will result to doing this ;)

Your audio source needs option to select output. Like my Teamspeak is set to output into VB. So if I'd had program which could record several audio sources I'd select VB for Teamspeak audio. Ofc I use it to filter TS out of stream audio.
