For those who lock FPS, how do you do it?

I've been messing around with my new 750 Ti since I got it about 2 months ago and I play a lot of older less intensive games, so I don't even need the full cards performance. On some games I get 120+ FPS and I only have a 60hz monitor so those extra frames are just being wasted as more heat on the card that's unnecessary. I tried locking my fps on evga precision X and that seems to work, but the program has issues with windows 8.1 for me, but anyway for those who do lock your fps what seems to be the best method you found to do it?

MSI Afterburner tends to work better than EVGA's offering. Fraps also has this function, I believe.

There's also an Nvidia-specific utility that frame limits, and is actually supported in the Nvidia drivers, called Nvidia Inspector. The only issue is I have no idea how it works under 8.1.

The other alternative is to play the games windowed. This should automatically limit them to 60fps, and some of them will keep this limit even if you fullscreen the window by pressing alt-enter.

As Bonsai99 said, either enable vsync to lock it at you monitor's refresh rate otherwise it's kind of game specific.  Some games will have an option to lock frame rate inside their graphics menu somewhere, others will require you to do something like console commands (in source games "fps_max [value]" will set a framrate cap).

Msi afterburner is your best bet, some games incur stuttering as a biproduct of high fps, this happens when a low demand meets a high demand in game, i used to lock to 80 fps in battlefield 3 for this very reason.

For me it doesn't really work with EVGA Precision X. In the Battlefield games you can create a file in the game folder for startup settings like max fps and to show your framerate for example. Just google to find the exact commands The other solution would be Vsync but that might create input lag. I've turned that off usually

Well I'm assuming that you don't want to use v-sync. A lot of games have a command that you can put in the console to limit fps. Just search for such a command in Google for whatever game you are playing.

There's a framerate limiter option in Nvidia Inspector - I've used it for Skyrim and Witcher 2, and in both events my load times have become extremely long, unsure why though.

Playing with the gpu load. 99% load consintent 240 fps, set temperature to 60° to reach 50% load.

You must be on 1 map the entire time, Noshar canals.

Not even a GTX 580 manages 120fps on low all the time.

Just played a round on markaz monolith, which used to destroy my old 6770 1gb, with that card I would get 60 generally throughout the game but that map dropped me to the 30s alot. I got on average with the 750 ti 110 fps on lowest settings, I was also recording with shadowplay so that decreased my FPS a tiny bit, so I probably would have gotten closer to a 120 average.
