How well would this work for dvd rips playback

I was just wondering how well this would work for the DVD rips. They are DVD not blue ray

Well enough if paired with 4GB RAM and a decent HDD/SSD, but to be clear, you know that the EeeBox there is a barebones (no HDD, RAM or OS), right?

Yea. would the keyboard work with ubuntu because it is meant for windows?

What is your goal with this device? Solely for media play back, or also for other things?

For DVD Play back 2gb is more than enough, but you can always go for 4. The Eeebox should be more than capable of basic DVD play back. The keyboard should be fine.

As a media only device you could also look at Openelec.
