15 Mbps on Powerline?

X1XNobleX1X

Hello forums,

Just had a quick question, I have connected the TP-Link TL-PA411KIT which is a 500Mbps kit.

I managed to get them paired, I ran a speed test, though I'm only getting speeds of 15 Mbps on a 100mbps connection.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

From my experience powerlines are truely awful.

I was able to to get a maximum of 35 to 50mbps on mine. I found it to make sense to spend the few hours and hide a proper Ethernet cable from my wiring cupboard to my PC.

First and foremost - Your powerline will NEVER.. EVER get even half way, or even remotely close to 500Mbits. So if that's even half, maybe barely a fourth, of what you were expecting to get when you bought the 500Mbps Kit, you may want to rethink this.

Powerline has a lot to do with depending on your electrical system at your home also.

For example, if your electrical system is noisy, that'll have a great impact on it; no matter what your adapter is supposed to be able to run. This is the same concept as you buying the fastest WiFi Router in the world, and your Cable Provider's speed limiting you, aka creating the bottleneck. Powerline has its bottlenecks also, electrical noise being the big / most common one.

So, troubleshoot if you have very noisy power due to an old electrical system or most commonly, a lot of devices introducing noise into your power. If that's the case, powerline has a lot more to overcome in having to transmit/re-transmit data.

Here's an article that will go into much more detail of what I explained, and also introduce you to other troubleshooting tips. Especially focus on Page 2:

Also, here's another great one that'll help you troubleshoot & diagnose connection problems:
