general mouse / mousepad setup.

Fredrikmikael

in all my years of gaming i have allways used a soft cloth mousepad, the one i own now is a roccat taito.

Since i felt for something new i did some research on mousepads and inevitable gaming mice.

I mostly play FPS gaming like Counter strike (source / global offensive) and Battlefield 4, tough i also play world of warcraft. these are just the main games i play.

It is said that the hard surface mousepad favors control and tracking etc.

and the cloth pad slows down after time ( as i have notcied too ).

i am far from a expert on any of these things but this is just what i have read from people who are experts or claim to be one.

now to the mouse part.

i have read the the optical mouse is superior in FPS games where you need to consistency and control, and the laser mice is not 1:1 precise as it will move different lenghts depending on the speed of your mouse movements.

i do own a logitech G400, MX518, and a g600.

the g600 i bought for World of Warcraft but i didnt like the feel of the mouse, i didnt feel the control i felt with the G400/MX518 and it felt somwhat bulky and to big. The g600 is a Laser mouse so it isnt the favored choice for FPS games either, and it would be a bitch to switch between the mice for each game.

the g400 is a optical mouse so it is favored in FPS games like Counter Strike.

a big part of Counter strike ( or fps games in general ) is consistency, if you do not have consistency you will build bad muscle memory that will bite you in the arss.

so now i will try the g400 + Steelseries 4hd, i expect it will take some time getting used to.

This is my question for those of you who actually read the post, what is your mouse + mousepad combo? are there better options than the G400 ?

and what is your opinion on this if you have one ?

( i hope you understand me as english is my second language )

EDIT: i have thought about buying a mechanical keyboard to replace my 10dollar garbage keyboard, is it worth it or should i just stick with what i currently have? if i were to buy a mechanical keyboard what are the best MX switches? i do not want special software custimization crap to jamm up the price as i find it unessesary, do you have any suggestions of personal experience?

I have a Mionix NAOS 7000 with a SteelSeries SX. It glides really nice and feels accurate enough, but I do not care for its (the mouse mat) conductivity and temperature variations. I also have a cloth pad that doesn't glide as well. The SteelSeries mat does seem to wear down the PTFE feet quicker.

As long as your keyboard isn't failing you, I wouldn't recommend getting a mechanical keyboard strictly for gaming.
