Dual-booting Hackintosh Gaming/Animating/Editing Machine.

Go to solution Solved by Shd0w2,

Of course. I'm just saying for ease of use on the OP. Gigabyte would be the way i would suggest :P Up to OP really.

Found an "Equal" of the OC formula from gigabyte, the nice ol' sniper if the OP wants, its like $20 more expensive, so not much of a difference

I'll start with the questions.

1. Budget & Location

I live in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, and my budget is around AU$4,000, but I'd like to be under that.

2. Aim

My aim is rather specialised, so hold on to your seats. I would like a dual-booting Windows 7 and OSX PC. My aims are to be able to perform office work, web browsing and Youtube viewing on either OS, but to also be able to edit on OSX, and game, record and animate on Windows. The most intense games will probably be War Thunder and Microsoft Flight, as well as Minecraft and a couple of indie racing games.

3. Monitors

I would like to be able to run a dual monitor set-up, with both screens of equal size. In terms of size, 21.5 inch plus is fine, but I'd prefer visual quality over size.

4. Peripherals

In terms of peripherals, I already own a basic flight joystick. I'm looking at getting a Razer Deathadder mouse(tested one recently), and Mionix Sargas 900 mouse pad. I haven't decided on a keyboard yet, but I would like some programmable hotkeys and good key feedback. I'm also getting a Razer Kraken Pro headset, and an Elgato capture card for capturing my consoles.

5. Why are you upgrading?

My previous computer was a school-issue 13 inch Macbook Pro. It was alright, except for lack of performance and available games. I spilt on it a couple of months back, and completely wrecked it. I'm looking at going into some serious Youtubing, as well as working as an animator. I just need the PC to get me there!

One of my first build lists is here: https://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=wish_lists&wlcId=255172&action=wish_lists. The idea was one awesome Windows machine plus stock iMac. If possible I'd like to keep the Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition case in the final build, I really like it. Anyway, sorry it's so long and specific, but I'd really like some help. Thanks!

Wishlist is set to private. Take a screen capture. or just write the list out.

Also the ThermalTake Level 10 GT is a terrible case.

Another Issue. You're going to need a Mac to be able to get the boot iso...

I changed the setting.

Also, what's wrong with the GT Snow?

1. Okay, making a build

2.no problem.

3. okay, so two 23inch or 21.5inch 1080p's as you said.

4.Cool, I would like to reccomend a K95, or a nice razer deathstalker since you need programmable key's, although, I would reccomend a pair of HD558'S with a Zalman clip on mic. YOu will enjoy it way more.

5. Okay.

Edit: I do have a question, do you want a water cooler and do you want to overclock a lot?

I dont mind running a water cooler if it will improve performance and I have a vague idea of overclocking, so I think so.

I can put an evo 212, it will run nice and quiet while still allowing some overclocking, not as much as a watercooler, but if your not someone who has overclocked before or wants to overclock quite a bit, then I think yor fine with the evo :P

http://www.tonymacx86.com/420-building-customac-buyer-s-guide-april-2014.html

the benefit of chosing hardware pre-picked by tonymacx86, is that your installation will be SIGNIFICANTLY easier than the one linus/slick did.

I've got the GA-Z77x UP5 TH, and I've had a hackintosh going more than once before. I always end up switching back to windows. I enjoy OSX but flip flopping got old pretty quick lol

The Gigabyte boards that tonymac picks don't require a DSDT in order to function. After installing OSX most everything will just work, except the built in wireless.

I also recomend using UniBeast over myHack simply for the ease of install.

EDIT: here is a budget friendly hackintosh http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3tPrI%C2'> I'm planning on setting up for my gf. She's got an old macbook and wanted a mac desktop for under a grand.

Differences of the build's above include: The more expensive monitor includes stuff that the cheap does not ex: 1 more monitor, Another gtx 780, better motherboard, better cooler, 1tb more of storage, and finally, 8gb of ram more.

Even so, in the long run, the OC formula would be a better choice in my opinion and experience, I will, however, add another 120gb ssd to the first and another tb of storage and another 120ssd to the second build

And these will dual-boot OSX and Windows?

I myself am not a hackintosher (Would that be the correct term?) But I do believe that with some fiddling either will work, just like most other hackintosh's.

Sweet! One last question: can both OS's use the HDD?

I don't believe so, thats why I added another two builds, the only edits I made from the first two were adding another SSD and HDD, so each OS can have its own HDD and SSD. Btw, which build are you picking out of the two? Expensive or cheaper one?

Yes. You'd be able to access each HDD from either OS.

Even so, in the long run, the OC formula would be a better choice in my opinion and experience, I will, however, add another 120gb ssd to the first and another tb of storage and another 120ssd to the second build

You do realized that Asrock boards are a lot more difficult to install OS X on right? Gigabyte boards are very easy and are supported a lot more.

Yes, but still, If your going to spend a lot of money on a build, then you better spend time working on it, so as I said before, even though it may be harder, the ASrock board is still a better Candidate for overclocking and stuff.

Probably the more expensive one, minus one screen.

Edit: I'll have to pass it by my budgeter aka Dad.

Gigabyte make fine boards man. You can overclock and keep a good overclock on those.

Thats fine, its just the reason I put 3 screen's in was because nvidia surround with three monitors. And the two 780's would pwn at 5760x1080.

I never said you couldn't, I actually have a nice gigabyte in my 8350 build, its just that I quite enjoy ASrock's OC formula more than any gigabyte Z87 boards

(Everyone can have their own opinions :P lets just leave it at that)
