Is this Hard drive good for Dxtory?

SheepLTS

Hello guys,

I am wondering if this Western Digital Green 2TB (http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=22582&cPath=344) would be good for Dxtory recording? I have my operating system on a SSD, my games on a 500GB hard drive and now I just need a fast drive capable of recording at 1080 @ 30fps or 60fps if I need too.

Get barracuda.

This, or a western digital black! I actually had a barracuda fail on me last week, this could be a coincidence but still.

Why are you guys recommending wd black?

The green is more than enough to record at 60fps 1080p

It is I just recommended barracuda because it's definitely faster :)

Get an ssd, its definitly faster.

No just joking, what drive to get greatly depends on the budget and a lot of other factors. Like is the pc on 24/7? etc.

But the seagate barracuda, wd green and black (if you're a silence freak and you've got a bit more money to spend) are all great drives.

I used to use fraps recording to a barracuda. otherwise maybe a wd blue or black.

It's faster but it doesn't matter here because the green is fast enough and cheaper.

To the op just get a green and be happy. Do you really think you'll be writing more than 80MB/s? Answer is no. Getting something faster will make no difference

But then if you edit and move the files...

I have done all this, the Green was more than enough to import in Sony Vegas, play it back, export and all.

My old HDD in raid on the dxtory benchmark got up to 215mb/s, can it buy 2 1TB WD greens and put them in raid for a faster write or is that stupid?

I got 2x Seagate Barracuda 1TB in raid 0 (Windows striped partition), they do 380 MB/s read and 372 MB/s write on CrystalDiskMark in sequential 4 GB test. Meanwhile my SSD does something like 450 MB/s read and 140 MB/s write (lower capacity ones tend to have slower write).

I can record 1440p @ 30 fps with Fraps with "force lossless" on without any problems which translates to around ~ 4.2 GB / 24 sec = 175 MB/s peak bitrate.

I would go with a Seagate Barracuda. They are faster, and just about as quiet, maybe a touch louder, but you might not notice it.

Alright so exactly what I need is a hard drive that can write 200+ mb/s, that's what my old hard drives in raid 0 did but the problem is they vibrate my case and make this annoying hum.

The green will NOT be able to record 1080p, especially at 60fps, using dxtory. Shadowplay records fine to mine, but dxtory has too massive of files sizes, even when using the h264 codec. Get a blue. They are $50 on amazon right now for a 1tb.
