FutureProofness

Hi everybody

I am buying a new PC , but i have two good choices, the problem is -  the CPU- Intel core i3-4130, and with it comes a GTX 750 TI, and the other buid i could buy is - A AMD FX 6300 with a GTX 750 - a normal gtx 750 not ti.

So i have read about it and everywhere is this - The fx 6300 has more cores and next gen games will be optimized to use more cores wich will give a performance increase - and this is where the fx 6300 beats the i3 - multithreaded aplications. So is the GTX 750 TI Really better than the normal version? Because the i3 has only two cores and HT - it doesn't have the performance of real cores, does it? Very confusing ppl help.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

As u named futureproofness, i would suggest buy i3 for now, upgrade it later to i5 or i7... :)

I can tell you that both CPUs are low end. None of them will last for a very long time, 2 years max. If i would be you for gaming i would pick up R7 265 and a FX6300.

R7 265 is a bit cheaper then 750 TI and better in most cases. FX6300 is OCable so it is more futureproof.

If you are a Nvidia fan get 750 ti, not the non TI, its worth the extra.

Ok. so the i3's 2 cores will still be good for a few years of gaming?

I'm assuming you're looking into a package deal or a prebuilt from Cyberpower PC or something, right?

They sell lower stock items and sometimes end up screwing you over in terms of what hardware you get or the price for the hardware. That's not to say it's terrible, but cherry picking the parts to your computer is almost always going to be the best route.

The i3-4130 is weak as hell for its price. That alone almost swings you in favor of the FX-6300 build. Neither one are truly 'future proof' but the FX-6300 is way better for you in the long run, gaming specifically and probably regardless of task as well. The 750 is decently slower than the 750Ti, although possibly more worth your money (as is most cards the cheaper they get).

Really need to know where you're looking at these prices, the cost, the availability of specific parts, country, etc. to help you out further.

It seems you're looking to spend ~$500-$600 and live in the U.S. My recommendation to you (the most future-proof cost-effective pc):

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Amazon)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($79.99 @ Newegg)

Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($64.99 @ Newegg)

Storage: Seagate 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive ($87.29 @ Amazon)

Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Video Card ($129.50 @ Newegg)

Case: NZXT Source 210 (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case ($36.64 @ Amazon)

Power Supply: Cooler Master Silent Pro M2 620W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($54.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $563.39

(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

(Generated by PCPartPicker 2014-04-18 05:36 EDT-0400)

Recommended upgrade path:

- GPU (something in the $180-$280 price range, or more if you wanted/can afford)

- Storage (if you need it/want it - SSD recommended)

- CPU (8-core Vishera FX CPU - 8320 is pretty much the only option worthwhile)

- RAM (Another 1x8GB of G.Skill Ares)

- Motherboard or chipset (Haswell-E/Broadwell/Something AMD)

- GPU (Second, SLI/XF or just a better one than your current)

Next step would be a new build, or whatever you'd like to do. The above recommendations are for a 2-4 year plan on your computer. You could possibly start a new build after a few years if you wanted instead.

Even if you don't live in the U.S., or don't want to buy anything but a bundle or prebuilt computer, this is my recommended overall specifications. Fx-6300, FX970 motherboard, lower end gpu or better, 1TB HDD/Hybrid Drive or 128GB+ SSD, 8GB of RAM (eventually 16). Anything with that or close to that should be ok.

Case, motherboard, storage are all

The reason why I don't recommend the i3 is because it is a major waste of money. It is no better than a $70 AMD quadcore Athlon. You're overpaying on the CPU more than the amount of money you're 'saving' or 'not spending' by buying something else. Instead you should jump straight to an i5 4670/4670k, go for the absolute lowest (Athlon X4 740/760k) or stick with the FX chipset for the best savings or dollar-worth. Also, the only processors worth buying from Intel currently are the 4570, 3570/3570k, 4670/4670k, 4770k, 4930k and 4820k. The rest are old/expensive for what they do, unless you're wanting a specific i7 for a working pc. i7's really aren't worth it for general use anyway, even in 'overkill' builds.

seconded...if he can manage that much budget...then surely he should go for 4670k... :)

Yeah i don't live in US, and i am going to pay monthly for that pc and yeah its 600 dollars.

Please don't write anything about money, or building your own PC.

SO what about the 560 and i5-2400.

Confusing : http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2110258/build.html

What is the best build ?

i would go for the i3 and the 750ti

but if you can get the other pc (i5) for a good price go with that.

Do you mean the other pc as the i5-2400 and gtx 560?

And the gtx 560 build will have 4gb of ram DDR3 1600mhz kingston hyper-x, but if it would be a problem for battlefield 4 and afcourse future games i could upgrade to 8 gb easily.

And another thing i didn't mention is the i3-4130 and gtx 750 ti will have 2gb of vram in the gpu.

CPU: AMD FX 8350 | GPU: AMD R9 270 Windforce | MOBO: ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 | RAM: Kingston HyperX 8GB | Case: X Predator X1 |CPU COOLER: Hyper T4

Bit more feature proof second gen I chips are slowly harder to get if you want to upgrade.

For  $600 and a prebuild you have a tall order to get the kind of performance you'd like. The better choice is the i3 and 750ti.

An i3 is by no means an amazing chip but it can hold it's own in games and worst case scenario is 10-15% slower than the FX 6 core (In games that can use all 6 cores- otherwise it's faster).

Yeah thats what i am worried about. Next gen games will use all the cores or more cores and theres when the i3 compared to FX will be slow. But will the 750 ti pay off?

I'd get the most modern GPU you can (Maxwell in the 750ti for example). A 560 is now old, whilst still reasonably well performing it will quickly become apparent when nvidia optimize drivers for maxwell more (not to mention the increased featureset).

The i3 really isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be, it's just not the best for the price. But the GPU dictates gaming performance more than CPU. CPU bound games like MMOs/RTS only use a couple of cores anyway so the i3 will win vs the FX.
