Sega Master System...

UltimateDave

I received an old sega master system from one of my relatives. It had been stored in a dry place for about 10 years.
I tried plugging it in and turning it on. There was no indication that it was on (not sure if there is any) so i plugged the rf cable into the little box thingy and plugged the box thungy into the TV rf in port. It still didn't work. I asked my dad to test if the power cable worked and yes, it did. Also the rf plug that goes into the TV works as well. So is there any way to troubleshoot this?

Aw Master System brings back memories... Streets of Rage, Alex Kidd, Ninja.

I don't think there are any leds on them. Is it making any noise when you hit the power button like a pop or a whine?

You will probably need to open it up and look for any faults or damage otherwise.

It could also be the fact the Master system ran on Analogue not digital so if you don't have an old Analogue TV it wont work.

It was a UHF signal about 38 or 45 off memory in Australia though i could be wrong cause some were VHF. Its a manual tune job as well cause most Auto tuners does not pick up the signal.

I use to work in the game industry when they were around so i gotta to go back 20+ years in my life to remember.

I would kind of expect something if it was working properly. I suppose the next step would be to open it up and have a visual inspection check for bad caps, broken traces, excess dirt build up etc.

If you have a multimeter  you might be able to test some components.

Long time ago  But I think it displays a 'missing cartridge' screen. I take it you are tuning your TV and it's not picking up anything?

I miss my SEGA Master System. I had so much fun on it.

If it makes no noise, it should.. You'll probably need to open it up and give it a peek.

Im plugging it into an rf in port, its not the TV. I tried tuning but i didnt have the time. Nit worth it until we can actually figure out that the thing works

Lol, tune it in, it's the easiest way to test if it works. There's a good chance it probably does if you haven't gotten that far.

What do you mean plugging into an RF port but not a TV?

As in, the problem doesnt lie with the TV

There might not be a problem at all if you haven't tuned it in yet...
