XMP profile fails, causes BSOD

Tass

Hi

i have build myself a new system, and have had problems right away.

When running everything stock, the pc seems stable, but when using XMP profile 1 (2400 MHz oc) the pc doesnt even reach a full system reboot before it BSOD.

The funny thing is, if i remove 1 of the 2 Blocks of ram, it Works fine, no BSOD with xmp. Works fine with either block of ram. only fails when both are installed.

tried manually setting the ram to 2400, crashed. tried at 1600 MHz, seemed stable, but crashed the next day.

it is only stable at 1333 MHz wich is stock for the ram.

And yes, offcourse they are xmp compatible ;)

specs

MSI z87m gaming

4770k

Kingston hyperx Beast (KHX24C11T3K2/16X) 16 gb (2x8gb)

no dedicated gfx atm

I was under the impression that XMP prepared systems should allways be ábel to run at set speed. My problem now is do i have an RMA case, and if so, how can i tell if it is motherboard or ram related?

I have tried lots of "guides", memtest, etc. any suggestions?

all drivers should up to date. anything i have left out?

have dmp files, but seems i cant upload them

Tried to find a similar thread, but no luck.

Put them at 1600mhz and see how they perform, honestly running them at 2400mhz is a waste of an overclock because there wont be a significant performance increase.

I have a problem with my 2400MHz kit as well, and i tried every kit at it's XMP profile. I found out that 1 of the 4 modules could not run at the XMP profile, and that's the story of why i use 12GB RAM  :D

Does your motherboard have a MEMOK light or indicator near the RAM slots?

did it, crashed.

i know the benefit is not that big with ram speeds, but the point isnt speed, but rather making sure my hardware isnt flawed, in wich case it should be returned. would rather do it now then latrer when they fail completely (if there is something wrong at all)

define MEMOK?? (googled it ;))

no lights or indicators near the ram.

fast replyes, thank you Guys :)

edit: no memok button, the system eventually resets to stock bios by itself

Try increase the memory voltage to what's on the box. Most 2400mhz kits need a 1.65 voltage. However, check on the box

XMP profile sets voltage at 1,65 as the manufacturer says it should be. tried setting it manually aswell, still crashed :(

Well, it just got a bit more weird.

Had several fails lately. My usb keyboard and mouse stoped working, but the pc did not freeze.restartet it, and after a few seconds it froze, no bsod or anything.

had to cut the power. powered it back on, no reaction. not even the power led lighted. after a while it started on its own, only graced the memory block with my hand. but it did not start up as it should, it halted on "late South bridge initialization". restarted and it halted on "late northbridge intialisation". turned it off, took out the second ram block, and it restarted as it should.

couldnt this be a sign of bad motherboard??
