No problem. Have a look around for youtube tutorials on the camera. See what people say and learn what it is best scenario is for. Then get some basics in photo shooting etc, through youtube. Youtube is a great resource to find out a lot for what concerns your needs.

You will find a lot of the effort and final product process is in post-production (editing). Some basic knowledge on photoshop or for that matter, any picture editing softwarel, will give a good understanding on how to bring the best out of your capture image.

A lot of research will pay and you'll enjoy the results you'll accomplish. Not to mention impress the family/friends/people

Well it's not going to happen overnight but...

YouTube doesn't really have that many really great channels for inspiration, but there are a few, for portraiture etc I would recommend these:

F-Stoppers:

Phlearn:

Outside of YouTube, the Creative Live workshops are great. Also recommend just trawling places like 500px.com and picking out your favorites and try to find out as much information as possible and then attempt to recreate something similar.

Im not sure on the level of your photography skills but first i would stick your camera in full manual, reasoning being this is the easiest way for you to learn what aperture, exposure and just to get a nice feel for how your camera works.  did this when i first got in to photography about a year and half ago and now im going on to study a degree in photography.

It takes a long time to understand everything and what everything means im good at self teaching so i didnt take that long. Have a look at the history of photography as well if you are interested in learning about it.

But first things i would do is put the camera in manual (dont need to set focus to manual but i manual focus always) and play around with you setting see that each thing does. I would also highly suggest you shoot in raw as in raw its uncompressed and a lot easier to work with in post such as lightroom and photoshop.

I could try to explain a lot of it but it would be a lot of typing haha.

I did the same thing. I had very little skill when using my sister D3000 and now I have a D5300. Now I take pretty decent photos (in my opinion)

  • 1 month later...

Meetup.com. Has some workshops near you to learn photography. Some are free and some will cost you little scratch. I'd do the free ones to start out. You tube is also free and a great place to start!

Experiment man,

There is a wealth of information out there but the best thing is to go out and take photos of things you enjoy. Watching a video will give you a skill set on how to operate and use the cameras features to their best ability, but in the end its you behind the camera that will take the images and no video will help you with that.

:) Happy snapping!
