Any tips for getting better at BF4??

MrTomnus

Thanks guys, that'd be nice actually. If I could play and work together with a few people I think it'd be more fun and a little easier to play :)

We can play some battlefield if you like, I'm not a great player but I can help as much as possible. Even if your gun skill isn't the greatest you can still be effective if you have good positioning and situational awareness.

Awesome :D Well yeah I have college still but it's the holidays this week so I have a lot of spare time.

I just uploaded another video after taking in all the advice everyone gave me. It was one of my best games so far! I made sure to keep looking around and keeping in cover (I'm playing as support so I didn't have any medkits handy). You're welcome to have a look and add any other thoughts! Thank you for helping everyone. @Recon-UK @ShadowCaptain @JasonRoGo @Hawx @Kevin_Walter @Skreedles

The game is fine. Stop complaining about bugs that were patched out a long time ago. Honestly I never had a problem with the game, so it annoys me when people call it broken when it's perfectly fine. Just because ea is a crappy company doesn't mean their games are bad.

That is for you. I still suffer from insane packet data loss, only for Battlefield 4. I am still getting inconsistently frame rates that can only be fixed if I tweak the game's settings file. the game is certainly better than it was months ago, but it can still use some polishing.

Watching a lot of counterstrike players (professionals) helped me.  I'm still not that good. Also, turn off mouse acceleration and all that good stuff. I don't like FrankieonPC but he had a video on how to get better which is apparently good.  Practice though. 15hrs isnt that long, your not going to get better by sitting on your couch thinking about it.

A lot of this is probably already covered, but I'll add my 0.02€.

Situational awareness - Be aware of your ammo count, your health, which points are capped, who needs ammo / health, use sound to locate enemies, actively check the mini map, etc.

Spot - This is extremely important. Spam Q when running around at all times. It will save your life, and even your team mates' lives.

Do not be afraid to ask - If you need something, hold Q and ask for ammo, health, a ride, etc. If you must, spam it until the entire chat is filled with your demands.

Step away from the norm - Try to sneak past enemies to cap their flag on the opposite side of the map. Most people will be going for their closest flag. Capping a flag behind enemy lines will make some of them fall back to recap that point, making it easier for your team to capture points on the front line.

Grenades aren't only for explosions - Use incendiary grenades as area denial, like preventing people from capping your point, plating the bomb in Rush, etc. Use smoke, flares and flashbangs to blind / visually impair enemies and push through difficult choke points.

Settings you can tweak - This is more of a personal touch, but I usually set my FOV to 95-100 to achieve a wide field of view. I feel a lower FOV would make it a lot harder to see enemies in my surrounding area. Also, mess around with your mouse settings until you feel comfy enough to make them sick 360 n0scopes. After all, an FPS is highly dependent on reflexes and the ability to point and shoot. This comes naturally after a while.

Regarding weapons and attachments - This is where Battlefield 4 shines. You can make every weapon feel different by going through all the different combinations the game offers. Mix things, see if you rack up some easy kills, continue doing so until you have the perfect set up for your favourite weapons.

Small tips (in case you didn't know) - When reviving, hold mouse1 for a second and then let go. Your team mate will be revived with 100% health, vs 20% when you only press it.

Med kits and ammo bags will, using magical magnets, attach themselves to things like vehicles and helicopters if you land them properly on (sort of) flat surfaces. They will then supply ammo and heal people in the vehicle when driving around. This is awesome for helicopters carrying personnel with RPGs, C4, etc.

When being sneaky, use silencers on your weapons. It'll not only hide the muzzle flash, but it'll also hide you from the mini map when firing. This doesn't matter if you're spotted, of course.

When in water, you can plant C4 and SLAM on boats underwater without the driver seeing you. Make sure you're at a safe distance before you detonate!

I recorded some gameplay to kind of show my points. Quality is a bit meh and I forgot to hide the Now Playing plugin for OBS.

Thank you for the tips! These are things that seem obvious to me but I always forget... The C4 trick is cool though. And nice gameplay by the way! Wish I didn't die that much :/

I added you

Awesome! Just getting ready for the day then I'm happy to play. Just send me a message if you feel like playing ;)

There are really good inf tip on this thread. Really big thumbs up guys.

@MrTomnus, I watched about 15s from first video and just couldn't watch any more. To be honest, as veteran BF player that was so slow pace you played. The 2nd video was much better but still too slow paced. The thing is even though BF is strategy style game, its not sneaking game. There are moments when faster moving is needed and other times when near camping-slow style is better.

My tip are:

- on moving target aim bit ahead. Not much as netcode isn't so great.

- spam Q. When you play on normal servers enemies get the orange triangle when they are spotted. It helps you and your teammates. Besides showing where they are, you get points from spotted target getting killed.

- always burst fire when aiming far. Far depends on weapon and spread so its basicly when you need to use rds you need to burst. It doesn't matter if you have smg, assault rifle or lmg. Burst is always more accurate.

- aim to upper body rather than head. Headshots aren't so important. You propably get hs for every 20-50 kills on your skill level anyway so don't worry over it at this point.

- Know maps. This is really important in smaller maps with buildings and corridors. You need to know where enemy players are coming from so you can defend better. So after you have capped flag, check map to see where enemy is spawning and go for that direction. Also if you want more kills, go where there is less your teammates.

- Be teamplayer. Please do this. Always throw med&ammo packs around. Spot everything. When capping flag, don't look same direction as everyone else. Revive, but don't do it in doorways or under heavy fire. Kill whoever killed teammate first and res after that.

I'm sure so of these were meantioned before. I'm also free this weekend, same name on B-log and we can use unoffical TS for teaching. And if you want to learn vehicles....

ive seen some good tips like try to think less/ react faster but something that u might want to try is using "OP" weapons help give you that edge obviously this isnt going to improve you that much but getting a few extra kills may boost your confidence and make it more enjoyable also on tdm/dom play assualt. some op weapons are the aek, ace 23, ace 52, ace 21 cqb once you unlock them. also if you use your whole mag to kill one guy its fine ammo isnt scarce :P and remember use the mini map alot.

Problem in using better weapons is fact that they have to be unlocked first. Some basic weapons aren't such bad. Like the assaults is one of my favorites.

Play with friends so even when you are doing bad, you can still have fun. Also, something that made me do better is playing hardcore. It quickly taught me to be more aware and to always listen for audible clues. Try out different weapon types and classes and see which one is the most fitting for the way that you want to play.
