Help with lighting for a build

Go to solution Solved by MrYuriy,

Just figured out how to reply properly (still new at this xD

This is most likely the case and just has to do with placement. I've been over thinking things a lot for this build just because I want to make it perfect. It probably wouldn't make much of a difference what type LEDs I use. Just need to make sure there hight quality with good directional lighting. Like the Phobya LEDs posted above.

Yeah, it's about the placement as I said. That part is the crucial difference between great & horrible/unbearable lighting.

I personally vouch for Phobya if you want top notch.

However, the BitFenix Alchemy ones are a great price for a product that's been reviewed and received pretty well.

Hello, this is my first time posting here. So hopefully the topic is appropriate for this section. I'm trying to decide on lighting for a 900D build I'm working on. I found a video on youtube that sparked my interest in the loop design. In particular how the builder managed to get the lighting effect on the tubing. Its clear tubing with red coolant, but it has a distinct glow that I haven't really seen in any other build before. I was hoping someone could help identify or give a suggestion as to what type of lighting is being used. That can give the same effect. I want to try avoiding the dull flood lights I see in a lot of builds. I know some LEDs can be extremely bright from certain brands. I wondered if this was the case with the build in the video. I also noticed some of the lights had a fading in and out effect. Might be helpful for figuring out which brand it is.

Note: I did trying sending a message to the video uploader for information with no success. Doesn't seem to be very many details for this build online.

Yes, I believe that is UV Lighting.

However, @Drahlok - Most of the time, it is LEDs. There are however good ones and bad ones, just read the reviews. There are many choices. But, it's ALL about the placement of the lighting. You never want the LEDs themselves to be visible, and never "too" bright. Hide them away to only give a "hint of lighting" to particular parts / surfaces. That's what the guy in the video executed very well; the placement of his lighting, not so much the type of lighting.

I did wonder if it was UV coolant at first when I watched the video, but I found that most UV coolants look more pink under the UV effect instead of the scarlet red in the video. I definitely agree about the lighting placement though. I need to make sure I get lighting that is easier to control the direction it is being placed on. Instead of the types that saturate/flood. the entire space. Probably means I need to avoid cold cathodes then.

Looking at that video I am going to say that the glow is done with just red LED's, you can see them in the build in all the fans, behind the flow sensors etc.

Glad you mentioned the BitFenix LEDs. I just checked them out on Frozencpu and they might actually be the ones in the video. The final shot in the video shows a LED strip between the motherboard and reservoir that looks like their 6 LED version. Doesn't mention anything about the fading effect on the product page, but I guess that is just something you could do with lighting control perhaps. Not a feature that matters really though although interesting.

Think you just solved it for me :P

Let me know if you have any further questions on LEDs or anything else.

Have a good one.

That's some bad luck! I've bought about 6-8 sets of these now, and I've yet to have that happen.

Btw.. They use 3M double sided tape just like BitFenix and pretty much every other LED strip I've ever used..
