Complete noob to linux here

Go to solution Solved by Satlen,

Yeah, you really don't need to install drivers usually for Linux distros mostly b/c most come with it packaged already.  But if there is one missing, just load up the additional drivers application and it will auto search for you.

Pretty much just install gpu drivers from Nvidia site choose the .deb for Ubuntu and install with the package installer or use terminal and install with repo from there.

Yeah it's nice to learn it now as the future is Linux and problems are super easy to mix most of the time if you just search the Ubuntu or Mint forums most of the time you just copy and paste things into terminal and your problems are solved.

Depending on the distro you can have linux automatically install the GPU drivers too. In ubuntu based distros theres part of the configuration menu called 'Additional drivers' and they will appear there.

Everything else is provided with the kernel. Even wifi drivers nowerdays will come with the kernel.

Arch Linux on Samsung 840 EVO 120GB: Startup finished in 1.334s (kernel) + 224ms (userspace) = 1.559s | U mad windoze..?
