Hotspot shield if you want free, but keep in mind that a free VPN won't provide nearly as much protection and speed as a paid one. You should just cough up the money for a paid VPN, it's really worth it and they aren't too expensive. I can recommend Private Internet Access, it's only $40 USD a year.

I'm very newbie when it comes to networking and data encryption, but for my simplistic requirements, Cyberghost does pretty much what i want it to, but don't take my word

 

Negatives(User Interface)

• Very simple for those who wish to do more than just appearing from a different IP

Hope i helped, but then again i'm not much of an expert in this field. From what i've seen though, a paid VPN is so much better for encryption as free ones don't offer much. While we're on Linus's forum so I should probably recommend Hotspot  Shield

There isn't really a such a thing as a "good" free VPN. They are making money off you somehow, if you're not the customer, than you're the product. They will sell your data, hijack ads and etc.

 

At best you will have to pick two of the following:

private

fast

 

That being said i highly recommend Private Internet Access(i have been using them for over 6 months now), it is only 40/year and it super fast and secure, i am on google fiber's 1Gbps internet and can pull 700-800 pretty consistently through the tunnel.

If you are doing in home browsing and just general internet use you should just pay for one.  You're not going to find a fast free vpn.  Maybe a free one with data restrictions.  If you're trying to get around a firewall at school or work try setting up your own at home that's what I do and it works great.
