Upgrading for better gaming experience

Hello there fellow computer interested humans!

Okey, so I've been thinking of upgrading my computer to get better performance in games and to be able to play at "High" or better graphics with good fps.

My specs right now are:

CPU
Intel Core i5 3450 @ 3.10GHz
RAM
16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 (1333MHz I think :P)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z77-D3H (Intel Core i5-3450 CPU @ 3.10GHz)
Graphics Card
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 (Gigabyte)
Storage
931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-9YN162 ATA Device (SATA)

I'm not a professional or anything like that but I think the Graphics Card is what I should upgrade first. (Please correct me if I'm wrong) And I like the nvidia cards so I think I'll be getting one of those. BUT I'm not sure which one I should get! So I thought some of you on this forum might know what would be the best upgrade, for example if I should get 2 cards for SLI? or one 770, 780, 780Ti etc. From which company? Asus? Gigabyte? MSI? Meh... So much to think about.
I'm using one 1920x1080p screen and one old 1280x1024p screen that I mainly use for browsing the web while I game or chat on skype.
So, I wan't to increase my performance as much as possible by upgrading for example my graphics card, if that's my weakes component atm and for that I need help from others who knows more than me about this stuff so, I came to this forum :D
I live in Sweden if that matters.
Please tell me what you think, if I'm 100% wrong about everything, have some parts right, or anything really!
Thanks in advance and have a nice day!

Edit: Budget is about 600-700$ but lower is always okey!

This looks to me like a pre-built pc, is that correct? If not, what PSU do you have?

If I am correct and it is a pre-built of some form, you will almost certainly have to upgrade your PSU to handle a more powerful GPU.

Do you have a budget planned out?

CPU: i9-13900k MOBO: Asus Strix Z790-E RAM: 64GB GSkill  CPU Cooler: Corsair H170i

GPU: Asus Strix RTX-4090 Case: Fractal Torrent PSU: Corsair HX-1000i Storage: 2TB Samsung 990 Pro

No, my pc was built by myself and the PSU is at 550W.

And my budget would be about 600-700$ max.

I would say get a 770 or a 780. I wouldn't go any higher than a 780 on that system though, you will start to outpace the rest I think. Others will chime in if I am incorrect.

Both a 770 or 780 would be very nice upgrades for you.

Is the 780 worth the extra money if you compare to the 770?

And should I wait to see what happens with the hopefully soon upcoming 800 series or just get a new card now?

I can really only answer your first question, Yes the 780 is worth the extra cost. It is a really great card. Probably about the best choice for 1080 gaming IMHO.

As for waiting, its completely your call. If its really important to you to have the latest and best thing, then wait for maxwell. If having the newest and best thing is really not that big of a deal to you, then just pick up a 780 and you will be thrilled.

Okey I think I'm getting an 780 when I find one I like. But I've got two more questions ^^

1: What about the 780Ti? Is it really worth all that extra money? I don't think I will get it because it's a bit too far out of my budget :P

2: I've been looking  at cards from different comanys and from what I've seen I think either Gigabyte or MSI looks best when it comes to speed and cooling. What do you say?

1. Nope. not worth it. Especially when you are on budget

2. I like MSI because of the cooler scheme and it's quiet too. IDK about Gigabyte though~

I've been looking around a bit and I found two MSI cards, one GTX 780 and one GTX 780Ti.

780 -->http://www.amazon.com/NVIDIA-GeForce-Gaming-DisplayPort-PCI-Express/dp/B00HUF82RG/ref=sr_1_22?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1397720729&sr=1-22&keywords=MSI+GTX+780

780Ti --> http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-780Ti-GAMING-3G/dp/B00HPS4B3M/ref=sr_1_48?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1397720362&sr=1-48

As I've said I live in Sweden so the free shiping looks good :P But still wondering what I get from an Ti over a "normal". Better performance? I guess it would be better if I decided to go with 3 screens? Any information would be appreciated :)

hmm, if you want 3 screens then you would need SLI, if you dont want do do SLI then 780Ti is better. on 1 screen only the 780 is about 5-15fps behind 780Ti in 1080p, but that dont worth much if you use multi monitor because the ram is the same.

I just looked around on amazon and noticed that they don't ship to Sweden... :| Now I'm having a hard time finding cards like those at the same price, or close to. :(

Does anyone know of a website or company that has good prices and can ship to Sweden, or Europ I guess?

Upgrade your GPU to a 780. You don't need to upgrade anything else right now.

Which one of the 780's is best for gaming then? I've been looking at MSI's 780 Gaming card as I've stated but I havent found it at any price near the ones on amazon or newegg. But I can't buy from there because I live in Sweden and they don't ship here.

Have you considered Komplett.se or Webhallen.se? I'd say if you have a case with decent airflow, go for something like the Gigabyte Windforce card.

I have been looking at the cards on both of those sides and I think it's between these three cards: https://www.komplett.se/k/kcp.aspx?sku=792999&sku=805260&sku=790483

Too bad the swedish prices can't match the US prices. (1$ ~ 6,6 swedish crowns)

And this is my case --> http://www.dustinhome.se/product/5010588652/cm-storm-enforcer-atx-black/ and I think the airflow is pretty nice.

If it was me, I would go with the higher clocked Gigabyte model. You will be very happy with a 780.
