AMD A-10 7850K memory

So a friend of mine asked me to build a system for him.

Since he is an a low budget, i decided to go with an AMD APU to insure good bang for buck and upgradability.

Since he wants to game a lot, I picked the new kaveri A-10 7850K for it.

My question is though, on the site it says max memory speed for it is 1233 MHz, but is there any profit to using higher speed RAM?

Thanks in advance.

Using a higher clocked RAM module will give you a decent performance increase ( 2133 or 2400Mhz is around the sweet spot for APU builds ).

wuuuuuuuuut? where are you reading that? the max speed depends on the motherboard and for apus you need high speed ram because it effects fps greatly

I second this, 2133 and 2400 MHz is what you'll want if you want to fully utilize the graphics cores on the APU.

Also bear in mind that you'll probably need 8GB of RAM

I would suggest "G-Skill Ripjaws 2133 MHz 8GB" They're a great price and as far as I know G-Skill memory has quite a good reputation

I personally thought of going with Kingston hyper x beast RAM.

The site I usually order from (and trust) actually charges more for 2133 MHz than 2400.

So I think I'll go with the 2400 anyway.

Though I don't know whether I'd have to underclock or leave it as it is.

Look at the specs of the different APU's.

you threw me off with a typo in the op you said 1233 when it supports 2133...

Fair enough, The Kingston Hyper X Beast RAM is solid, I only suggested G-Skill because it is cheaper here in the UK. Which store do you buy from?

And as far as clock speed goes, leave it at 2400MHz, that should be perfect for the GPU portion of the A10.

alright, I order from a company called Azerty.nl

Living in the Netherlands, that's easy for me, and they have pretty decent prices at around 75 bucks for 8 GB 2400 MHz

AMD have mentioned during CES that the A10-7850K can support up to 2400MHz RAMs even if the APU specs states that it only supports 2133MHz memory

no harm using 2133MHz RAMs thou

just have to go into BIOS to set the memory profile to set the speed from 1600MHz to 2133MHz or 2400MHz

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.
